  • Issues with stuttering videos on HTC Cosmos Elite with Wireless Adapter

Hi, I am having problems running downloaded/local files from Sexlikereal.com after going from a wired connection to Wireless via the offical wireless adapter: https://www.vive.com/eu/accessory/wireless-adapter/

It is stuttering a bit - not unwatchable - but the difference is noticable from the wired connection I came from.

I always just download the recommended files for HTC Vive (5K-6K)

My hardware setup is pretty good:
- Intel Core i7-10700K
- Geforce GTX 3070
- NVMe type hard drive

Running at a total score of just around 8000 in Passmarks Performancetest = Top 90%

Streaming from SLR is not stuttering like this. But of course the quality is lower when doing so.

Any idea what is causing the subpar performance? And can you think of anything I can do to improve it?

Hope you can help :-)

Thank you for taking the time to help me 🙂

I hadn't installed any of those, no. So I just did, but the result seem to be the same.

However, I didn't configure anything - just did the install - so maybe that's it? Do you know any guides or something to help set it up correctly?

My app says "Powered by DEOVR 9.02" - is this the app version you are referring to?

      Thanks for taking the time.

Danelikevr My app says "Powered by DEOVR 9.02" - is this the app version you are referring to?

We currently have an issue with v9.x so it's hard to discern where the cause lies. If you are using Win10, can you click on the start button and start typing Movies & TV (can be named slightly different depending on region or language.)

Can you try playing the videos with that app and see if it shows the same stuttery behaviour? Thanks!

        Rakly3 Great idea!

So, I just tried to ran the files through the microsoft app - sending it to media player.

I also tried to run them in the video player that runs natively via Virtual Desktop.

In both instances the videos played much smoother than they ever did for me in the SLR app.

Obviously, it gave me a whole other headache in that the videoes wasn't as nicely adjusted out-of-the-box as in the SLR app, which is why I would still really prefer to use the SLR app if possible to hit the better framerates.

But at least now it seems like there should be no problem for my wireless adapter-setup in handling the (big) video files

          Danelikevr Not Windows Media Player.
The App Movies & TV, it uses Media Foundation just like our app. Media Player doesn't.

Rakly3 Sorry for not being clear - I was using the Windows 10 Movies & TV app and it played smoother compared to the SLR app

              Danelikevr Ahh 🙂
Then the issue is most likely the wireless connection but not the wireless part 🙂 It could be due to the data compression it is doing in order to send it. I don't know the system, but can you check if your graphics card is decoding AND encoding at the same time?

Rakly3 I assume I see this by pressing CTR + ALT + DELETE -> Task Manager -> Performance -> Then Selecting GPU and noticing what's going on with video encode + Decode?

For most of the videos both encode and decode stays at 0%. However, for a few, I noticed it would start decoding, but this was really just a couple of the videos I tried (SLR_DDFNetworkVR_Massage Erotique_2160p_4506_LR_180 + SLR_DDFNetworkVR_Busty Glamour Girl_2160p_4798_LR_180).

When playing in Virtual Desktop, it showed the same = Encoding + Decoding at 0% for the most part. However, here I can still run the videos without stutter despite the missing GPU encoding+decoding.

                  5 days later

                  Sorry for the delayed response.
Does you CPU increase in workload substantially when playing the videos or when using Virtual Desktop? (And the GPU isn't encoding/decoding?)

Did you install K-lite I linked to in an earlier post?
Can you check if your GPU is working when playing the videos in Movies & TV?

With k-lite installed, Click on the Windows Start button and type codec, this should bring up the Codec tweak tool. Launch it and do both Fixes and Reset.
In the VR app, can you also try toggling the Direct Show toggle. You can find it on the right side panel while a video is playing.
