  • Spatial audio released

With a spatial audio you hear different sound when rotating your head and experience better judgement how far it is. This is experimental feature that opens a great opportunity for a better sound

  1. Open in SLR app or Deo one of these videos:

  1. Go to video settings - enable spatial audio

Let me know how you like spatial. We plan to invest a lot more to make it great.

Does this only concern the stream version, or the files to be downloaded as well (so for those who have already downloaded these videos, will have to re-download them)?

Since this seems like the central place to discuss this feature, I experienced a lot of issues with this last night.

My setup:
Pimax 8KX
GPU RTX3080
SLR app
In-ear noise canceling headphones

1) I tried streaming Sexual Alchemy via the SLR App, flipped on the "Spatial Audio" tab, and the audio was completely off sync. The video/audio kept lagging and it was unwatchable. Also, when I turned my head, nothing changed with the directional audio. I tried changing to different souce (h264, 2700p, 1920p, etc) but did not improve. Note it isn't my internet speed, I can stream via SLR App just fine.

2) I tried downloading the original MKV and the 5k h265 of Sexual Alchemy as well. I added _FB360 to the filename of the MKV. When watching the file locally via the SLR App, I had the same audio/video sync issues. And the video kept lagging (never have this issue with SLR Original videos before). Also, all the audio sounded very hollow / out of phase, or something. It didn't seem correct.

3) I tried watching Huge Flex, via the downloaded 5k h265 version. I noticed in Media Info it had 6 audio tracks so I figured it would be okay for spatial audio. I added the _FB360. When watching this, the audio was reversed. Everything that should be on the left side was heard on the right side, and vice versa.

Overall, I wasn't able to get anything to work properly, so I just ended up watching Sexual Alchemy in normal audio, via the 5k h265 mp4.

Hope this helps some. FYI: I really want this to work. I think spatial audio will be really cool. But there is definitely some troubleshooting that needs to happen. Also, question: do all the lower renditions of the SLR scenes listed above work with spatial audio as well? As in, the downloadable 4k/5k h265 mp4s with added _FB360 tags. Or is the MKV file the only file that supports spatial audio. This needs to be more clear.

g2kbuffetboy Thx for a great feedback.
The way we have spatial is very experimental yet. It works great on Quest 2 with native playback (no Link cable). Can you try?
Win is a bit tricky. Important is that we made it work. It also needs to be rethought on production ground. The potential of spatial is overwhelming. We are definitely going that way.

Howdy =). Unfortunately, I don't own a Quest 2. I only have PC VR / Pimax 8KX. I did talk to a VR buddy who has a Quest 2 who tried the spatial audio and it worked fine for him. So I think it has to do with Desktop implementation?

g2kbuffetboy yes, desktops are more of a trouble. working on that right now. It's an early proof of concept with a lot more need to change in the whole pipeline starting from production ground.

I watched the ''casting couch-2'' with my Quest1 but the video settings panel does not have the spatial audio tab.Is it not available for Quest1?

Please check "options" tab in settings panel. You'll see Spatial audio toggle.

bruce Are the options to change audio settings available only while streaming? While watching a downloaded scene I didn't notice any options as far as changing the audio- hopefully something that is added soon.

I don't get the 'Spatial audio' toggle in the setting panel either.

I always download all my files and always originals for best quality, which also means I spend A LOT on scripts. I don't get any audio on the .mkv files which sucks because they have fanctastic video quality. This is becoming a bigger and bigger problem as most of the new ones are .mkv. I don't care if I have spatial audio or not but give me some audio please!

I've tried renaming the files, installing latest lav, using different headphones and using all the options under spatial audio in the windows sound settings - off, windows sonic, dolby access, DTS.

If I play the file in wmp it plays sound fine. Could we get this addressed please? even if it's a disable spatial audio button in SLR for downloaded apps that would be great!

          thanks

Spatial audio is really interesting. I tested it with the Quest 2. Is it possible that the volume of the first videos is not mixed correctly? In the Eyes Wide Shut video, the left channel seems to be too quiet. In the video Casting Couch 2, both channels seem to be a bit too quiet. However, I only see the spatial audio function with streamed videos in the Deovr player. When I access local files with the Deovr player, this function is missing.
On the Pico 4 with the Sony headphones app activated, it seems to work with some videos? Is this technically possible?

          8 days later

Has anyone verified that Spatial Audio works with the Pico 4 on any video? The setting can be found under subtitles and audio. Under Audio Track you can activate Spatial Audio.
