Polar Correct, this has been in the making for years, nothing to do with Andy Burnham. The Labour government did try to stop it as being unworkable (and some of the stuff around taboo porn has been watered down) but at what point do you want to be seen by the public as the party that supports suffocation and strangulation? They were in a tricky position and eventually caved. I really can’t see anyone having the time to enforce this on individual porn viewers. Are they supposed to go door to door across every household in the uk and watch every porn scene on every dvd/laptop? I think it will be one of those things where, if they seize your laptop for more serious things and then find this stuff on there, it’s an added thing they can charge you with.

Why you’d make some old conservative baroness the moral arbiter of what is and isn’t ok in porn, I’ll never know.

Ofcom is planning to bring out guidance for sites at some point in November, with information about how they intend to enforce this.

My expectation is that they're not going to try and regulate anything that the Act doesn't explicitly cover. We will push back against any attempted overreach.

If it's any consolation for UK people, the existing rules in Australia are even more restrictive. Any form of BDSM gets refused classification Down Under, though that doesn't usually impact websites, yet.

I really hope that they clarify that they are only outlawing actually dangerous stuff where people are being suffocated/choked to the point of passing out. If every little neck squeeze is outlawed, it will be very difficult for sites and for porn consumers in the uk as it’s so common.

It’s so annoying as this started out as just trying to stop kids from seeing porn with the whole age verification thing and they’ve taken the opportunity to suddenly start trying to regulate the whole thing on the basis of some anecdote that a kid asked a teacher or someone how to choke a woman correctly. Surely the whole point of adult verification is that kids shouldn’t see this stuff anymore and that adults can tell the difference between fantasy and reality. Porn is not supposed to be an instruction manual for real sexual encounters, it’s a fantasy and it allows some darker fantasies to be lived out through experienced adult performers in a controlled environment.

I hope you can show the clarification here when Ofcom provide it.

Will do. I misspoke on November, that's when they are starting to consult with sites on what the code should look like. The Code is expected in 2027.

Dan Leal and a few other producers visited the Ofcom offices to talk to them about the new regulations.

We will be providing input to any consultation to ensure that the distinction between consensual fantasy for adults and illegal material is made.

I actually feel sorry for SLR and the adult industry in general that they are being thrown under the bus by the UK Government, they are actually laughable in their incompetence

If i'm correct the UK Government (whichever party, i don't really care) are bringing into law on November 6th 2026 without actually giving regulatory 'Detailed information' to Ofcom, to advise websites of what is allowed on their websites under this new law and this info may not be fully realised until after November 6th, possibly a lot later ?

And instead of having the foresight before having law fully implemented which is what most normal people would do and thoroughly working through the fine details they are making the regulations with Ofcom up on the fly and haven't informed worldwide websites of the new UK Law until a few days before.

So users and websites are in limbo while the Government and Ofcom set out the regulations with requests from websites officials. Surely if websites don't know the fine details or regulations at this point in time then how are we simple users expected to understand with a deadline of November 6th that the law is put into place - Is this a joke ?

I'm sorry i find the incompetence of the UK Government beyond redemption. This is truly unbelievable if true.

Surely in the words of these scumbags 'The Right Thing To Do' would be to decrease the import duty on healthy foods ? - Are these unhealthy foods now ok cause it suits their agenda ? - Apologies i'm just being pedantic due to an obvious contradiction in policy.

10 Billion for Ukraine while UK citizens that pay this money through taxes are struggling to get by are getting approx 2.8 Billion relief ? Am i missing something, maybe it's to pay for the little brown envelopes, corruption and lies ?

And how much have the Government allocated for UK defence or have they kicked the can down the road ?

BTW:- I'm only mentioning these things on this particular post to help give an idea of the type of people we are dealing with as most people rightfully so try to bury their heads in the sand and pretend not to care.

It's doesn't take an ecomonic visionary to understand the implications of this attitude as it's filtered through society with the impending implications of Ai's effect on menial jobs in the short term and bigger changes in the long term, the world is changing fast and it's not good IMO.

Governments knew this was coming and should have had the foresight to implement 'Workers Rights Protection - Against Ai Replacement with Agreed Contractual Certain Legal Clauses' to make it a slower transition as we all know it is inevitable, but less of a shock to the world economy and ulitimately people lives... but what do i know ?

It's all about foresight... i lke to call it 'Feathering the Nest' ... but i'm bonkers... and apparently Ai that talks nonsense (i'm still hurting).
