WebXRChief As it turns out I'm going to return the Galaxy XR, but I'll give you some feedback on the app and the current state of DEOVR for high-end VR users.
There's a way to go to get DEOVR for Android where DEOVR is on Quest 3. The critical functionality for SLR 'users' is really the ability to assign buttons on controllers to allow you to zoom in/out tilt etc.. This is basic functionality that is needed because SLR has so many videos by so many studios with different cameras and each requires adjustments. So you need to be able to zoom in/out tilt etc. from the controller without opening a menu. The universal grab and move when the menu is active is just not sufficient for that use case (SLR).
--The pointer 'line' from the controller should be removed when the menu is put away.
--The passthrough AR (A.i.) is has too much delay on this headset. NOTE: this might simply be an issue with the under-powered processor on the Galaxy XR. Anyway, on passthrough AR via AI has too much delay following the subject. It is not tight and too much of the background is seen haloing around the subject. This is distinct from designated (designed) pass-through videos which look stunning on this headset.
--On the whole if it wasn't for the bad lenses on the Galaxy XR I might be tempted to keep the headset and I'd be very happy that you produced the DEOVR app for Google Play. This is especially because (and I'll post this on a different thread) DEOVR for PCVR right now is broken for new streaming videos. This fact alone would keep me from purchasing Pimax or other high-end headset as SLR is a primary use/consideration of VR and streaming new videos through your subscription is critical part of that.
For those interested on my take for Galaxy XR and why I'm returning it:
First: yes SDE completely gone, blacks look better, and figures look more solid with the improved contrast.
When you look through the sweet spot straight ahead you get great clarity
However:
--Too much warping from the lenses. When you look a little off center you get blurring. But when you move you head side to side the image warps. (Slight fun house mirror).
--In only a few days of testing I got overheating warning when cranking VD up to monster even on DEOVR PC. This happened twice, and I got lost tracking issues (headset shut off and closed app) in moderately lit room.
Once my custom prescription lenses arrived I compared videos from Quest3 to Galaxy XR:
--FOV is the same essentially.
--Image clarity is better on Galaxy XR
BUT is it $2000 better? NO.
Returning the Galaxy XR.
