I'll chime in on my 2 cents.
I'll headline the question, and my personal dynamic. "Is VR dying?". I'm one of the lucky few that can open a tinder page and have 6 dates in the first week. But let's be honest, the dating pool is abysmal, even when you can date them, they chase you, etc.
So is VR dying? Imo, no... there will be more and more men who "can" date, bust just don't want to, until the HoeFlation market crashes.
Yes OF is a problem, in many ways not just for VR. I think it has over saturated the market. I read somewhere that upwards of 1/3 to 2/3rds of women aged 18-30 have "tried" OF. So, saturated market for sure... we wouldn't like say "netflix" if anyone who had a camcorder could upload their videos to it and we had to WADE through it looking for the next Jessica Beil, Kate beckinsale, Megan fox from that massive of a "talent" pool.
There is also a DEFINITE drop in actress attractiveness and skill level. We can throw theories around all day on this. But we used to have pornSTARS, now we have pornPEOPLE. I do not mean to hurt feelings, but example: Blake Blossom is the physique and attractiveness level I would expect to meet working behind the counter at the local gas station in a 2 light town, in the pre OF days.
I think before, in the Stoya, Kayden Kross, Riley Steele, Rebeca Linares, Rachel Starr, Jessica Jaymes etc etc days (2000s-2010'), it was super hot gals moving to Hollywood because everyone back home said they could have starred in The Island instead of Scarlett Johansson... Reality hit, porn showed a way out, boom a pornSTAR is born. Or you had gals who weren't on the same league on a 1-10 scale, but man could they lay it down, like Abella Anderson, Angelina Valentine, Naomi Russell, Heather Brooke etc etc.
Also I think we need to take into account the general public. Used to most gals were fit, and some of them were gorgeous also. Nowadays, most girls aren't fit, a smaller number are, but it's slim that they're fit AND gorgeous. Lots of the would be gorgeous gals are simple not concerned with being in shape, and are fine being overweight.
Personally I don't like the stick figured you see out of old eastern block countries. But anywhere from 2005 kayden kross to 2007 jayden jaymes or rachel starr is HoTTTT.
As far as "is VR dying"? Idk... maybe? For me, it's necessary.... but would be absurdity useless without my SR6 tempast 6 axis machine, or bare minimum a kiiroo keon. I don't think most men have had enough bodies under their belt to truly give up on real women in lou of a VR and a machine.
But porn actress quality and skill level across the platforms, 2d, 3d, cam girl etc is definitely dropping across the board and steadily.
We've got a few new bangers, Carolina Guerrero springs to mind, Lana Smalls, eden ivy, and some others for example. And we've got some roll overs from the old world, Shalina Devine, Cassie Del Isla, Uma Jolie, Ella Reese, etc. But the talent pool sure could use a lifeguard.
