Samsung Galaxy S8 problem.

Hi all, I was wondering someone might know how to solve a technical issue.

I'd been using SLR on my Samsung Galaxy S7 with Google Cardboard forever, working fine. It could always handle the high-res videos too, not just the Smartphone downloads.

Anyway, the screen broke, so I upgraded to a Galaxy S8. And now all VR videos are agonisingly slow and laggy, and if I try to view them live via the SLR app, it automatically reverts them down to 1900 resolution, whereas before I could view the much higher quality files easily.

Presumably the S8 would have better hardware than the S7, so no idea what I'm doing wrong... any body come across this issue before?

taxloss All for streaming? Or also for downloaded files?
Oh, and USA or rest of the world? Based on where you ordered/bought it from.

The S8 has different hardware in the USA.

Both streaming and download. I'm in Australia. I've tried just about every VR player in the Play Store and none of them are any better. The SLR app meanwhile doesn't even attempt to play the high-res files, just automatically switches to 1900 resolution.

taxloss You might have gotten QCOM version of smartphone which won't play anything above 4K (1920p), in Galaxy S7 you might have had Samsung Exynos which was better in terms of videoplayback. Anyway we suggest you to upgrade to Quest 2, cardboard is no good way to watch VR by any means
