So whats the point of this post then? 10% is not much (still a huge number of users) therefore we should remove the feature as a result of the low percentage? What if it were like 90%? SLR would find a way to charge people for it or something. If they remove the feature, you are not going to 'pay less' for your subscription, history dictates.

Its nice to have features of a website, though maybe infrequently used, without being nickled and dimed about it. Like think of all the features on your phone you touch once or twice or once a year, but its nice to have them when you need them. I dont know what were talking about honestly.

I get that for SLR the perfect subscriber is someone who never generates any traffic but still keeps their sub active (see also gyms), but that doesn't make anyone who actually watches videos a freeloader.

Isn't that obvious? SLR pays for webservices and they need to think of some way to allocate those costs to users, then add the other costs, profit markup and calculate plan pricing based on that. If some users are downloading say 100x the average, then SLR's costs go up. But if they evenly spread those costs over all users (and not charge you extra for those insane downloads) then all others like me are financing you. For downloading movies that you don't even like that much but still want to download because maybe some day your preferences and taste changes ... It's just data hoarding.

harigeharry And how does that equate to anyone being a freeloader? It's users making use of features that they pay their subscription money for. Do you monitor whether your streaming minutes exceed the average and stop because you don't want to become a freeloader? Again, if people pay for a gym subscription, are the people who actually go there several times a week freeloaders as well? That whole business model is financed by people with subscriptions who don't make use of them.

harigeharry 15 normal files + 3 HBR files per month should fit the need of most. WIthout those 3 HBR files it would have felt like you guys only take stuff away, but as proposed I actually think it's fair.

I'm not sure I even understand those people who want to download more than that.

Not everyone has their life structured like you. For various reason I never have and never will stream this content.
I'm glad it's just fine and dandy for you that I should only be allowed 18 files per month, sounds dreadful to me.

Having internet in one location and viewing in a different location is the biggest reason downloads are important to me. I feel like I'm still a legitimate user. I get it, you all have to find the sweet spot, and appreciate that you said this will not apply to older subscriptions. FWIW as I've come to know the various studios and talent I've become more picky and barely ever bump into the limit anymore.

However, unlimited ppv downloads isn't really a subscription plan. That's why I laughed. In 2021 lifetime unlimited downloads was a no brainer for me. I think offering unlimited ppv downloads is a great way to promote streaming.

Lots of businesses have people dipping in and out, they'll sign up when there is something worth signing up for

Streaming, Netflix, Disney etc
Sports subscriptions / PPV events
Patreon/Onlyfans

Perhaps you should compare your churn figures with 2D studios to see if there is a common theme and not specific to VR/downloads

You can also send emails out with a questionnaire to gather information that the statistics do not show

Like others have said, limit the downloads on 1-month subscription plans but leave 1yr or lifetime at 30 downloads/6 days, this promotes longer subscriptions and disincentivises hit and runs (but they'll always exist)

Most importantly clearly outline the download limits per-plan on the signup page, right now it's only visible as small font disclaimer text!

Earlier someone proposed a lower download limit for new/monthly subs. That would solve the alleged problem of hit and run users. It's a obvious solution that SLR could have thought up themselves too, so that raises the question: why is SLR changing it for everyone instead of targeting the specific problem group? Is it really a problem or just a pretext?

No, I download things that I like, and sometimes my preferences change so I want to download extra things when I like them but having harsh download limits prevents me from doing that

harigeharry I surely understand that when you get something for free at first and then they take that away, that that sucks. But you should understand that you were freeloading on everybody else and that you surely can't expect that to go on forever. Like said, it's good business practice to allocate costs there were they are made. If you want to download insane amounts of data, sure, go ahead, but YOU should pay for that, not others like me who barely download. That only makes sense, no?

It's basic business knowledge that a vast majority of users are light on resources and big profit margins, more than enough to cover the rest of the users - Spotify, Netflix, Google Drive, email storage companies, all sorts of businesses have the same exact model

And besides, downloading 30 videos every 6 days is not insane amounts, it's 2025 and storage is cheap. I don't have the figures but i'm guessing the number of users that max out 30 downloads every 6 days often are absolutely tiny

jommy Mate, don't let them bait you, yes... they are talking absolute nonsense about freeloaders etc but just ignore it, at the end of the day if they have plans then it will happen and it is the company and 'yes men employees' that will face redundancies or closure.

It's a created agenda to test the waters, but has probably backfired due to the panic OP posts like this create, and has probably increased downloads 10 fold due to panic created by this naive post.

It's quite funny to watch sometimes how companies can get it so wrong 🙂

Should mention that SLR doesn't allow AI PT to be downloaded, therefore anyone who enjoys AI PT is forced to stream rather than download.
