Hi I'm new to VR porn but not new to VR and I would like to get some idea of what to expect.

My headset is a Pimax crystal light (I'm a flight simmer) and I have used DeoVR for streaming and skybox for playback, both are the latest updates.

I'm experiencing all sorts of issues and would like the views of you more experienced gentlemen if I may.

My first question is about the depth of focus on these films. When the model is on me the image is crystal clear and sharp and I must say it's very convincing. However when she moves away more than about 2 feet the images degrades until at 6 feet it's quite poor.

Am I doing something wrong or is this how the films look to everyone? Please anyone feel free to post this isn't just for the techies.

    Is this caused by the focus point when it is filmed, does anyone know? I'd imagine the camera being set for close up.

    Try using HereSphere for playing downloaded videos. It's the best player there is. Every video looks better with it. It has auto focus everywhere you look. It calculates the distance of the object you are looking at and focuses it.
    I use a Pimax 8kx so the graphics aren't as clear to begin with but I don't notice a big change if something goes from1 foot away to 6 feet away.
    Try HereSphere and let me know if it looks better.

      Superman101 Also using the zoom function on all players improves the image quality - In Skybox my default setting is -5 or -6 and In DeoVR it's 75%- 77% - But this is personal preference and adjust for your taste.

      You probably know this already but worth letting you

          Right now most content is produced with Canon Camera where you can set focus manually.
          This year the Blackmagic Camera will come out and on this camera you have fixed focus. Expect all professional videos to have improved focus on distance and even worse focus on closeups.

          I am really interested what @doublevr thinks about that. After his video I kinda lost interest in the Blackmagic because of the fixed focus and the huge body size that will make POV nearly impossible. With the handle in the way the camera cannot be mounted upside down and I am generally at a loss how we are supposed to shoot embodied VR with that monster.

                Arsians_com That's interesting, I thought videos should be improving with passing time not getting worse.
                Funny how new ideas don't often improve things.

                  Just a thought going forward . do any of you use supersampling or oversampling for vids? It's quite common in flight sims.

                  A quick update. I bought Heresphere this morning on Steam and it will not open properly, I'm getting a black screen crash which disables my mouse so I have to use task manager to close it.

                  Will update you in the future when/if I get it working.

                    Thank you Thank you Thank you so very much for suggesting this, I finally got it working and it is ground breaking, the difference between this and skybox is night and day. everything is clear and sharp now at all distances.

                    Best thing is I haven't had to tweak any settings to get sharp focus, it just works. There's loads of stuff to tweak and try stuff but I'm not tweaking anything without recording the original settings as I can't see (yet) how I could improve on it.

                        Superman101 I'm not sure what you are using for a controller but I use an Xbox one. One of the buttons if you are the setting page or any page I think. If you hold it down it will tell you what that setting does. No need to write them down, if you go to a different video then they will reset for the new video. The old one will still be changed but you could see what the default is on the next video.
                        I change things but it is hard imo to really fuck things up.
                        I'm glad you like it. FYI it is one guy that made the whole player years ago. He still improves it all the time. That is why I bought the player instead of the free version.

                            rerun119 I'm using the Pimax controllers that came with the crystal light, they're like the Valve index / Reverb G2 and Quest ones. Both controllers have the same functions ATM but I plan to change that soon. I want the right joystick to pan and tilt and rewind/FF and move forward and back one button does the menu open/ close. I can program this on the grip button to move to another layer so all functions on the one controller, I'm right handed so right controller. Should work fine once I figure out the programming.

                            Thanks man and yes I love the software it is not just better it's gamechanging. I bought mine too to help the developer, guys like that are the real genius that makes these things work.

                            One little thing I haven't figured yet is how to keep my mouse out of it. I launch the player which takes over the mouse so then I can't use the mouse to close the player. If the player boots up correctly I can close the player from the headset but sometimes it doesn't if I get the sequence wrong and I have a black screen in the headset. Only way then to close it is task manager/ end task.
                            Maybe I can program a controller button to close the player?

                            Is there a Heresphere thread on here? I haven't found one but if not we could start one and post any settings info on there to help others out.

                                Superman101 I'm not sure if I understand the mouse question correctly but if you mean that after you take off the headset and want to close the Pimax program. I click Ctrl Alt Esc. That brings up the mouse controls again. Then I close everthing.
                                I don't think management wants anybody to really talk about Heresphere on here. They used to let Heresphere have access to the site and to be able to stream videos directly from it. Then something happened and I'll just leave it at that. If you stay on here long enough then you will figure it out.

                                    rerun119 Ah I see. I have had a bit of time using the app now and have found my way around the menu's. I used to launch it from the desktop which locked out my mouse functions and then don the headset but I now launch it and close it from the headset so don't have the mouse issue . Many thanks for your help with this issue though, I really appreciate it.
