nljetze Here's a summary of the thread:
The initial reason given for why it was removed
We stopped creating contact sheets for new videos as we are optimizing content management. The feature barely gets 150 visits a day.
Then they said generating the thumbnails takes "significant rendering time" (it's a task that should take seconds in reality)
Just optimizing transcoding flow for faster releases. Surprisingly CS takes significant rendering time and slows release process.
Also every feature takes some maintenence and qa costs - it's important we can justify it.
Then they started talking about using AI to generate something that is ultimately less useful to customers (and requires more processing than the existing method)
Moving it to ai so you can expect some hottest frames and intelligence
the latest thing we are discussing is extracting AI enhanced frames to give you a perfect idea of content, angles, positions, etc so you don't need contact sheets at all.
instead of 4 random photos currently uploaded and random CS timecodes you will get a perfect series of the hottest moments across timecodes.
And now no one really knows what is happening because the feature is still gone from the site 🤷♂️
