  • Streaming Quality

I’m on standalone Quest 3 and through the deovr app it seems like there’s a significant loss in quality. Is the webxr through the browser better for streaming? This applies to almost all content streamed through deovr especially VRspy. I did do a speed test and I get 100+ Mbps in browser but only 35is through deovr.
I’m using the handy and prefer to stream for the ai scripts.

Edit: The quality loss is pretty noticeable because edges are very fuzzy and lack of skin texture. Almost like there’s a ton of smoothing applied.

raggedpoo65 The problem currently is with the stream files visual quality as they are capped at 30mbps even for 8K witch is very low for such high resolutions.

If you want to see an acceptable quality, you should download and play the original high bitrate files. But that's also will be taken away sooner or later unfortunately.

    Best of luck.

I actually think the crappy image quality at the moment is a combination of a couple of things.

Personally i think the latest Meta firmware update v74 has defaulted to a lower resolution as this has happened to me before. The reason i say this is not only does DeoVR look very fuzzy / fluffy streaming, but even Heresphere and Skybox playing scenes that i know are awesome quality don't look pin sharp like i know they are.

This is an issue that seems to resolve itself over time (Maybe Meta update the resolution on the quiet once they know the update is working as it should)

The second reason is the latest DeoVR update is particularly buggy, mainly regarding the sound but also image quality with loads of bitrate issues, it's almost as if they have released an older version bringing back Colour and Sharpness issues.

These two issues together seem to be compounding the problems and making 'everything' look fairly low quality.

I've noticed that the VR cams look particularly poor at the moment, so grainy and fuzzy i find them hard to watch.

I'm no tech expert so i'm just guessing at all of these issues - But i'm usually close to the mark.

Whatever the issue is, it seems to be making my eyes hurt.

Try opening slr in meta browser to compare

What do you mean by this are they taking away the original download option??

Silly-Sausage Thanks for the valuable information!

I didn't know about this, since I left the standalone headsets for months now. I mainly watch on PC currently with Pimax Crystal Light and with HBR videos, so the visual quality for me is superb.

It's really sucks that all of this happened to you guys. Hopefully all will be resolved ASAP.

          Best Regards.

            You're welcome 🙂

Apologies, i wrongly assumed you were also on Q3 headset as per original poster.

BTW it's not really a game breaker but an issue that seems to occur after either a Meta Firmware update or 'possibly' something to do with SLR.

But this seems to confirm what i'm throwing out there - it just needs other Q3 users who have a similar issue to highlight the issue - However light users of VR may not notice, also some won't even care.

I guess it will fix itself over time like it has in the past

            Cheers

I not sure if this is the issue I had the other night but I got sick like I was going to throw up. It was something from the videos that was messing with my head. I haven't had this happen in years. I had to stop and I started Heresphere to see what happened. I stopped feeling sick after I changed players.

Yeah, i know what you mean - it's almost as if the IPD is off for some reason, it's making my eyes ache - Hopefully when they fix the sound issues it may fix the image issues we seem to be having aswell - Fingers crossed 🙂

After switching back and forth between the WebXR and Deovr. It’s definitely a Deovr problem. I mean the web streaming isn’t much better for image quality but for fast moving objects the webxr is noticeable better. I downloaded a few videos and compared them using heresphere as a control.

rerun119 I think it has to do with frame rate and the fuzziness. It’s almost like Deo is running at a low frame rate. It sorta feels like playing a game with frame generation.

                  Silly-Sausage You're absolutely right,

I powered up the headset and it started updating, it took too long to download and update (maybe because I didn't use it in a long time).

So I left it and went to do some tasks, after 30 minutes I returned and it was ready to use and yes, it's not right, at least not of how I remember it in terms of visual quality even when I compared it to the Crystal Light. It looks fuzzy indeed with DeoVR App version.

Couldn't test it on PC because I gave the cable to a friend, and soon the headset to follow.

                  I think that's confirming it.
                  Kudos man!

raggedpoo65 It's well established that SLR videos are encoded with low bitrates and that DeoVR rendering is worse than other apps like HereSphere both in terms of quality and performance
