Why does ARPORN passthrough look better than SLR passthrough?

Danronald Yeah I think the problem is that the streaming quality from SLR is not as good as the HBR of course. And Arporn (I THINK) streams at the same quality as the download, so 75 mbit/s, although I have not confirmed this. So maybe that's why people say that arporn is better.

If you download HBR though, SLR is better IMHO. How to watch, well there are 3 options, first of all you can download directly to the headset. But there's only limited storage of course on your headset, so a better option is to download the files to your PC and then stream to the headset. There are 2 ways to do it, first is setup a windows share and then simply play the files from that share. The other options is to use DLNA, like "Serviio"

As a player you could use Heresphere on the quest for example.

Keep in mind that you can't do AI PT that way, only true PT.

Ok guys, just to see if the theory in my previous post was right, I did a test, streaming max resolution SLR vs max resolution arporn while monitoring throughput via my router interface (my unifi router has an option to check that per client) . And my theory was 100% correct, Arporn streams with the full original video bitrate (75 Mbps) while SLR streams with WAY lower bitrate, can't put an exact number on it but it seems somewhere between around 25 Mbps.

So yeah, that's why streaming via arporn looks way better, because their streaming IS better, 3x higher bitrate actually than SLR streaming. And it's also the reason that I don't stream at all from SLR but I download the full HBR file. And again, when you do THAT, then SLR actually is the winner.

harigeharry you need to use the Real player for your downloaded PT Alpha scenes... Heresphere.

It's not free, but there is a free version with a pop-up to test it out. It has so many adjustments its kind of intimidating at first but the colors/clarity you can achieve are by far the best.

I have the paid version of Heresphere and found it incredibly difficult to use. I’m not a Luddite but I do appreciate simple UI. Probably why I like iOS over Android for my phone. DEO is my personal favorite for VR as I have all the controller settings the way I like them.

I’ll try downloading a PT file from SLR and see if it makes a difference on my quest 3.

A kind of foveated streaming can be possible for ar video?
It should be possible to stream only the visible part to a higher bitrate but it imply to apply the mask on the server side and not by the app
