120 FPS comeback?

So I noticed a couple scenes from 6 months ago were ‘upscaled’ to 120 fps

Although 120 doesn’t work for these (choppy footage, unlike the older 120 vids), 90 fps is still a big improvement and adds a lot in VR

I’d love to see more of this, I’m guessing most people are unaware of this in general as its not consistently available (at all). Maybe make a note on the thumbnail next to script/AI marks.

nimendie not sure what prompted this but yeah I’m talking about Deo and pre-rendered. 4k isn’t worth it as a trade off imo but thanks anyway

Simply would love to see more SLRO scenes rendered in 90 FPS/8k. This works natively in the Deo app via (good) wifi on the quest3

bboy7895 There are eight SLRO 8K scenes with streaming files (the ones with lowered bitrates) labelled 120 and 90 fps. As the OP said, 8K/120 fps does not work but if my weary eyes are to be trusted 8K/90 fps plays just fine on Q3.

adinihsan Why do you think good wifi is needed? SLR's 90 and 120 fps files are relatively small, and the data rates needed to stream them are just a fraction of what your wifi can carry. The fact that 8K 120 fps plays choppy is due to the decoding limitations of the headset.

SchnuppiLilac Actually I cant play any 90fps+ videos standalone without it buffering. I have 1gb line too, can play it easily on the pcvr. Im not sure whats going on with standalone, but my speedtest on deovr is cap at like 40 mbps or less.

I even went ahead and bought a wifi 7 router and still with the same buffering issue.

Sierra's hubby here: I think it'll take a pretty big bump in processing to handle 120fps in 8k. As it is right now, Naughty America did 45mbps on Sierras 6k VR video with them. Therefore, I figured 50mpbs was sufficient for 8k. 25 to 30mbps was good when we were shooting 30fps, but at 60fps was not. I think 90 to 100mbps would be required for 120fps. That would turn a 30min video of 12gb, into 20 - 24 gb. At some point you get a law of diminishing returns until codecs improve. I know I'm kind of new to the game, but I'm researching a lot and trying to bring the best quality I can

VRHotwife 50mbps is fine for 8K 60 fps if you use the right encoder, codec, and settings. Also higher frame rates don't actually require that much of a bitrate increase. There are usually very minor differences between frames and encoding makes heavy use of that to keep sizes down.

Hairsational I wasn't sure how it would translate to higher frame rates, was just taking a guess. I can't shoot any higher than 60fps anyway so anything above that would be "optical flow" guessed frames between shot frames in post processing. My computer gives me a big middle finger in wait times processing 60fps... 5090's are melting so it may be another generation before higher than 60fps. ROFL

bboy7895 I think the 40 Mbps cap in DeoVR is normal, I am seeing the same. My thinking is this: With my internet connection I can download like 90 GB per hour over wifi. The Melody Marks 8K 90 fps video is 20 GB with a duration of 1 h. So if my Wifi can master 90 GB/h, then there should be no issues with 20.

On Q3, 8K 90 fps still seems to stream and play normal for me, while 120 fps playback is choppy but no buffering. On Q2, I am getting an error message (unsupported format) from DeoVR immediately when trying to switch to 8K 90 or 120.
