DeoVR/Q3/SLR: Spinning dots when trying to start a video

Lately, I am seeing lots and lots of spinning dots when trying to start a video from the grid view. After a while into a session, it seems that almost every other video needs up to three attempts to initialize the stream which can get quite annoying. Once the stream has started, playback and skipping 10 seconds forward works absolutely fine, which makes me think that it is not a bandwidth or internet connection issue.

Trying to figure out whether this is just me or a general issue. Is anyone else having this problem? So far, I have seen one or two others mentioning the same issue in the forum but the majority seem to have no reason to complain.

SchnuppiLilac This is something that would happen to me only occasionally on DEOVR (via my Quest 3) but it has become much more regular in the past two weeks or so. The other thing I notice as someone that skims videos by jumping to certain positions, is that when a video first fires up and the first line of positions of listed at the bottom is blank, if you hit on the down arrow (to show you additional positions) it shuts down DeoVR immediately and consistently. Both started happening at the same time, I think earlier last week. Typically hitting that arrow is the first thing I do when opening a video (if there are enough positions to warrant an arrow) and I've needed to change that instinct.

Does that make sense to anyone?

I think it is general issue. Have had same issues using my Quest 3 maybe one month now. At least 1/10 videos do not start right away and give spinning dots. 50 % failure rate seems little bit odd...

I've been getting the spinning dots off-n-on for a couple weeks now. I assumed it was an initial buffering delay.
My workaround is to drop the resolution down a notch or two or three until it starts playing, then switch it back to max resolution.

Occasionally I'll hit a scene that the workaround doesn't work for, so I skip it. I've back-checked those scenes on a different day and they played fine with no spinning dots. Chalk it up to the vagaries of the Interwebz, maybe.

I've noticed this too. Every once in a while the 1st video doesn't load, so I would exit out, open another video that loads, then go back to the 1st video and it loads.

Metamucil Yeah, the timestamp-menu end up too far down, so the arrow is located right above/hiding the "Exit DEOVR"-button.

I too have noticed more loading dots when using SLR via DeoVR on Q3. Changing the res to 2880 has pretty much fixed it for me but it's annoying knowing I'm missing out on more clarity at higher resolutions.
I think SLR's CDN network needs work...

renstimpy11 I am all for helping SLR improve but I don't want to have to learn a bunch of IT shit to do that. Give me a button to hit on DeoVR and I'm in.

Q3, DeoVR always latest version from Meta Store (automatic updates).

What others mentioned about a video staring but the time-stamps/positions not properly appearing in the UI: this may have started several weeks or a few months ago.

Right now, the aforementioned issue is less frequently appearing for me. Instead, I am getting much more often spinning dots still in the grid view (that is before the player UI appears) after having clicked on a video. The percentage of videos for which this happens on a specific day may vary. Not sure when this started but I think in 2025.

Yesterday, close to the end of my session, about every other click or action in DeoVR returned server time-out or error messages. This may have been a temporary and exceptional issue but is adding to the picture.
