  • Next gen 16K, 120FPS, AV1 is coming

doublevr Cool, really curious to see 16k@60fps. Where did you find that AV1 will support 16k@60fps btw? Thought Nvidia introduced MV-HVEC to get to these resolution on VR?

I thought yall said yall wanted to do away with pcvr?

    Is there 16k camera?

I'm very glad SLR renewed its faith with PCVR. I think @doublevr is a technology nerd whom needed that boost with all these exiting news about the new 5000 series GPU's video encoding/ decoding capabilities.
And let's not forget about current PCVR good headsets like Pimax Crystal Light and even hopefully better upcoming PCVR headsets like Valve Deckard. Yes, PCVR had its issues but that's in the past, I believe PCVR finally starts to get its act together as a very solid platform. And yes, it will not be as massive as the cheaper standalone platforms, BUT it will always be the high-end cutting edge of VR technology, There's no doubt about it. It's years ahead of anything standalone mobile chips can offer. At the end, as I'm solely a PCVR user, I couldn't be happier with these times. Cheers everyone!

VRXVR I don't think PCVR isn't going to take off again. It's too expensive and no where near as convenient as standalone. It will remain an option but standalone will be what everyone uses.

Hairsational Yes, I mentioned that briefly. As of writing this, for me, Standalone VR still does not cut it in terms of Visuals when it comes to Games especially, IF it does someday, I'll be very happy to switch because of the convenience factor as you mentioned. And yes it's an option, like the cars world, there are Super Cars for those who can afford their expenses and understand their complexes in order to own that unbeatable performance, and there are normal ones that are both affordable and convenient for the masses whom simply doesn't care about that. What I'm trying to say is, when Standalone VR catch to PCVR performance which it will happen someday and I hope it will be ASAP, I'll be an extremely happy Standalone VR user. Thanks for your input and best regards!

Some thoughts: I think upcoming pc vr headsets like the deckard will be wireless with the ability to go wired. Gaming wise standalone is like 8 years behind pc vr it's redicoulous and quest is the worst thing that happend to pc vr gaming. We're nowhere near half life alyx quality again even now because of it. Quest is a nice headset for porn though and was good for general vr adoption. However the resolution and processing power is just outdated at this point. Even for standalone. We need pc vr for the high end experiences especially in gaming. Mobile will just not cut it there. All though porn only might come close with the really expensive headsets like avp.
