Videos only play correct when menu is active - Oculus Quest

Hi Folks!

For some reason all SLR videos are playing strangely distorted - like the right eye is too close to the nose. As soon as I hit a button to bring up the on screen playback controls, it looks perfect. As soon as the controls go away though, it comes back. All other 360 videos like on youtube are fine. I thought it was the oculus browser so I downloaded the DEO one but had the same issue there. Is there something else I should be trying? This is a shared headset so I'd prefer not to install an app.

jamesearlgrey When you are not in the menu you actually see in stereo (two different pictures), once menu brought up you see just mono (1 eye). Some videos might have improper stereo settings, check SLR originals and let me know how the stereo feels there

Philip Ah - that makes sense. I just tried a SLR original and it appeared the same as all the other videos. Is there some sort of global setting that would cause stereo videos to not be calibrated correctly?

No dice still - all the offsets are at 0 - Runamok - are you sure the menu version of the videos shows mono? I would assume stereo is the proper way it should be seen, and all the videos look great when the menu is up but as soon as the menu goes off, everything just sort of 'flattens' out and close-up scenes seem to have a 'double-up' effect.

My quest is in developer mode so I can sideload other apps - is there anything else I should check out? any other settings etc? Again, Youtube 360 videos are fine - it's only SLR and other sites of that ilk that seem to have this issue.

jamesearlgrey check video settings and make sure vertical and horizontal offsets are 0

jamesearlgrey Have you setup the Quest correctly? Means the setup tutorial and the correct position of the IPD slider? Because most of the 360° videos on youtube are only mono and on mono content an incorrect IPD setup doesn't matter.

There is also an option in the settings of DeoVR / the SLR app to force mono all the time (like how the menu is), if that's what you prefer.

Hello!
If in mono mode (when menu is open) you see video well, but after closing the menu the picture deteriorates badly - you need to check the video offset settings.
Please review the settings carefully.
Use option to reset the settings to the default value before starting setup.

Thanks everyone - this was super helpful. Forcing things to mono in DEOvr fixed everything perfectly. But not only that, the Stereo adjustments also made viewing in stereo work properly. I can't seem to see a difference though between the two now though - is that the idea? Does one mode have an advantage over the other?
