  • 6DoF - What does it do now, what will it do soon?

Currently toggling 6DoF does not make a difference for me, except that I can no longer move the dome, which makes my experience worse.

I would imagine that true 6DoF requires scenes to be filmed to specifically support 6DoF. And I assume the result is that I can move around in a scene and see it from different angles.

  1. What does the experimental 6DoF feature in DeoVR currently achieve?
  2. What could it be capable of in the future?
  3. Is SLR currently allocating resources to get it to that future state?

As I understand, it allows your to move your head around relative to the video. From what I've seen the current implementation is rather useless and has a bunch of limitations so there doesn't appear to be any compelling reason to use it.

Iskalla As stated in various thread here, SLR is working actively to realize true 6DoF. So you won't be watching a video anymore, but more like a video game, where the characters are rendered. There are already websites offering that. In the end, it should look like a video, but technically it's a video game, since everything is going to be rendered. So you can then walk around the model in high quality. Let me look up an example of a website already offering it ...

EDIT here's one example you can actively move on your desktop: https://volucap.com/3d-humans/ But there are already also VR versions with porn, looking them up now ...

EDIT found it: https://www.realgirlsnow.com/pornstars If you haven't tried this, you definitely should, it's interesting and free to try! But the image quality of course has to increase a lot for this to become really interesting. But with time this definitely will happen, hopefully sooner than later.

harigeharry Actually the above links is the right one (going into the 'strip club') the porn section there isnt 6d0f. You can open it in a 'private window' so there's no cookie tracking and you can just close and reopen the page again once it starts complaining you should become a member. Make sure you go to settings and change to the highest quality. Actually hadnt tried this in a while but the tech is pretty damn wild. The quality should just become a bit higher.

Either way, this is all the future for SLR and they're actively working on it. The current implementation of course useless and should be disabled IMHO.
