84% gpu usage in menu screen

I know this may be problem with the Deovr player it based, but i got ridiculous 84 percent of gpu usage (through VRfps) even at menu screen in SLR, then in the video playing it reaches to 93 percent. Most video will not stutter but my fans going super lound.

I have RTX2080 super with i7 and playing bonework only use 74% gpu usage, this is not acceptable, any ways to fix? (valve index)

i did my own tweaking and found if i change index to 90hz, the usage in menu screen decrease to 75% (still high) , but then i cannot play 120fps videos

Also in any refresh rate, i had to turn on legacy reprojection in video settings otherwise the frame rates drop drastically (even for 60fps videos it can fluctuate to as low as 40)

I also tried deovr standalone app, same problem, i try to ask question in their forum not answered in a week, they seem to have abandoned the app and steam version hasn't updated since last november,. i seriously suggest you guys look for alternative vr players (e.g. simple vr player, whirligig, etc)

Thanks for the clue! I went to LAV and find it was set to DXVA native, after change it to cuvid, now in the SLR menu is is about 30% GPU and 45% in video playing! I also found the H265 format has way lower |GPU and cpu usage than H264.

The native deovr player is still ridiculously have 85% gpu usage in the menu screen without display anything despite the change, but i guess that's their problem now.

ok, i spoke too soon, only after i opened the native deovr once, now SLR go back to high gpu usage again! i uninstalled deovr, i uninstalled SLR and reinstalled it. Make sure the LAV code changed at Cuvid, doesn't make any difference, it is still 85% in menu screen.

But it worked once! can you suggest how to trouble shoot?

now i feel it has nothing to do with the decoder as we are talking about the menu screen which didn't play any video yet, just rendering of deovr GUI (or SLR ), something messed up in the buggy DeoVR!

is there a way to fully reset SLR? i uninstalled it and reinstalled but seem all the settings including auto login are still there

ok, after struggle with it for another hour, i got it resolved. Here is my finding:
1 i have to uninstall both SLR and deoVR completely, not only through uninstaller but also delete app data/locallow files, as well as all registery files under Hkey_curent_user\software

reinstall SLR through installer and update

Now the SLR will work perfectly with low GPU usage in the menu, if I install DeoVR player from steam on top of it, immediately everything fucked up, meaning the version of Deovr in steam is buggy with high GPU usage even in menu without playing any video, but the package packed in SLR is fine (may be newer or older).

Lesson is: never install deovr player from steam, if you did, have to remove all the traces including appdata/localow as well as reigistry before reinstall. And SLR dev please do NOT use the version of deovr (said as 6.4 in steam update news) in the steam to include in your next update
