  • Quest 3 + DeoVr --> refresh rate (set to 120 hz) changing mid vid

Hi everyone.. i need help to solve this problem as i can't solve it myself.
The problem is this :
As i watch any video on deo vr,that support 120hz refresh rate, i start noticing the refresh rate changing from 120hz to 72 hz.. the difference is really noticeable.. after a bit running at 72hz it goes back automatically to 120hz resuming the nicer experience.
If i keep open the right panel where you can change the refresh rate i can clearly see it changes to 72hz and go back to 120hz on his own.. the sudden change is annoying to the eyes and ruin the experience for me.
I don't know if this is a vr bug or quest 3 bug... maybe something is off with my settings.. can you help me out figuring how to keep 120 hz refresh rate ?

Thanks

garduz On Q3 there is no way of setting the refresh rate manually in the OS like on Q2. The concept is that the app (DeoVR) needs to tell the Q3 to run at 120 Hz, so the settings in DeoVR is all there is. Since this is all running in the background, hard to tell if your issue is caused by the app or the OS.

Not sure if there could possibly be thermal throttling going on on your Q3 causing the temporary drop. Q3 also has an energy saving mode that will have an impact on graphics, so in case you have that mode activated you could try turning it off.

Hey @garduz , agreed that my first suspicion is that Quest's hardware is being overworked, thermal throttling could be related to too many processes at the same time or potentially even low storage on the device. Is your issue isolated to visiting SLR only, or does the same thing happen on any DeoVR video you try playing?

Also, can you confirm which software version your Q3 is on? Is it v67? Trying to narrow down to see if it's a DeoVR specific issue or potentially a device that's having a hard time working at top speed, any details you can share would be greatly appreciated!

Megas_SLR hi , the Q3 version i'm using is V68 currently.. but i have this problem from months ago.. i just didnt know what it was so i didnt make a post earlier. IT seems to be happening just inside the video.. outside browsing vids i dont have a way to tell.. and there is little animation to say if its 120hz or 72hz.
is there a way to make it go smooth at 120hz ? i usually use spotify too in the background but i tried without and it's the same thing... i should go watch porn in the freezer ? thanks

SchnuppiLilac i made sure to remove the battery saving mode, as im using a good recharger while using the quest so it doesnt drop much. yes the quest is hot but when it does "the bug" it's not hotter then when it doesn't... it keeps switching from 120hz to 72hz to 120hz ... so it goes back and work properly for a bit

garduz but when it does "the bug" it's not hotter then when it doesn't

I don't think you could possibly sense the difference with your hands on the outside of the headset's casing. Imagine if a CPU or GPU would have time to heat up its surroundings significantly before being throttled, it would probably be too late for damage control.

Anyway, this was just a guess. Something is causing those refresh rate fluctuations but at this point there is no way of telling whether it's the app or the OS or the headset's firmware.

Edit: Did some testing for 10-15 min on Q3 with the right panel in view. For a while, I turned everything on I could think of to make the fps counter drop from 120 to around 35. But during the whole time, the refresh rate setting remained on 120 Hz.

garduz What good recharger do you use? I usually plug mine in when it gets low and I'm wearing it.

Didn't know you could play Spotify in the background, that is neat. Make a romantic evening of it.

SchnuppiLilac thats so weird... :/ i dunno.. i'm gonna try again and also gonna try heresphere to see if its deo vr for me
