  • Computer going slow/freezing/incomplete file when I try to download anything

Is it just me who struggles to download anything from this site?

The main issue is that when I start the process, the whole process crawls to an extremely slow state. Any other site I've been on, when you click 'download', the box comes up on your browser telling you whether you want to open or save it within a couple of seconds. When I do that here, I have to wait about 3-4 minutes before it appears. Then once I've clicked on 'Save' I have to wait another 3-4 minutes before the box appears letting me chose which folder to save it to. Then another 3-4 minute wait to create a new folder, before I can actually start the process of downloading. Sometimes the wait is longer than this, and at some point everything just freezes, until I have to force closed and restart my browser, or even my entire PC.

To add insult to injury, about 25% of the time I try to download something, on the first attempt it won't download the entire file, but just a tiny fragment, and then says it's complete. Sometimes it will take me about 4 or 5 attempts (each time having to wait for ages as it crawls through the process) before I can actually get it downloading properly beyond this point, to download the entire file. Once it actually gets past this point, the actual download process goes fine, and the files play fine - it's just SUCH a struggle to get to this point.

I've tried both Edge and Firefox, and the issues happen on both browsers. Any ideas?

Hi @DaveBowman2001 just checked it now with Chrome and can confirm that downloads work as intended. It can be the firewall on your side checking if it is safe to download the video or your storage might slow down at some point when dealing with huge single files. The download speed also depends on your current bandwith so we would also suggest to check it as well.

Again, it's only this website that I have this issue with. When I download files just as large (or larger) from other websites, I get no slowdown/freezing issues at all, so it's not bandwidth or storage space. I'll try turning off my firewall next time, and see if that helps.

Just tried it... 14,4 GB in 10 minutes on wifi with no hiccups and plays fine. You've said slow computer,,, you're sure you have enough free diskspace?

Definitely something wrong with your download chain or PC as SLR comes down at full bandwidth speed, consistently 🙂
I use Chrome to view SLR website but found the inbuilt downloader software not good enough for consistent speed and it used to drop some larger files part of the way through. Tried a few add-on apps for Chrome and they were not much better.

Changing to Free Download Manager (for all my downloads now), fixed the issues I was having and is strongly recommended! Try it and see how it works for your situation.
