Macs & Video formats

Recently I got a Mac. Very powerful beast. But I have used Windows all my life.
Video files are giving me some issues.
Every SLR video I download can fit into premiere pro just fine. But not all of them can fit into Final Cut Pro (Mac) or even be played on my Mac.

Am I missing something here? Do I have to encode each of these files that do not work for my Mac?

Solved with Terminal encoding. I'll keep this post up in case anyone else runs into this issue and they can reach out.

Apple uses a different variation of the mp4 container format to everyone else, but you can quickly remux videos into their format without doing a full re-encode. Get used to things like that, Apple are assholes.
