  • Downloads plan revamp

If SLR want to limit download bandwidth, perhaps a review of the specs for "ORIGINAL 8K" high bitrate files should be considered.
Some of these can be very large files and whilst I appreciate the quality, anything with a bitrate over 60Mb/sec will be hard to pick on a retail headset.
On my Q3 using network storage, 60Mb/sec is a good upper limit for playing files without buffering. There must be a good reason that this is what CzechVR use as a standard bitrate for their 8K files......

Some studios and videos disappear from SLR with little or no notice.
N.B. on my SLR feed today (1st July) advised MariaMartinezVR will leave on the 27th June (a few days ago), so has completely disappeared already, with no ability to download anything that may have been of interest.
Prior warning would always have been nice!

Hairsational the rumor has it more sites are considering pull a plug on downloads. SLR is going to be your best offer as it always is

doublevr the rumor has it more sites are considering pull a plug on downloads.

      SLR? 🙂

Other than sites owned by VRBangers, I seriously doubt any other site is even considering it. Badoink maybe in the distant future. Others, no chance.

Philthy181 Nooooooo I'd definitely vote against lowering bitrate!! Especially on the AVP it DOES make a difference! Nothing gets close to the SLR originals in terms of video quality. For me it's actually THE reason I signed up here, high quality video's.

harigeharry Bleak prospects for the future. Once everyone will have access to AVP-like display quality, there will be nothing left but reduced bitrate streaming. When VRB got rid of downloads, those 10K/12K videos they made became (officially) unavailable before anyone could actually watch them.

doublevr as a loyal customer this is good news for me. im not a regular downloader, but i do want to have downloads as an option when i want to. thank you.

chanser the limits for loyal customers should only get lower. Figuring things out 👍

harigeharry which app are you successfully using with SLR on your AVP?
You would need to download every video you want to watch in "Original" quality, as streaming uses the lower variable bitrate. Do you save them on a network drive or to the headset?

Percentages of users downloading more than 25 videos per month:
            30-days bundle plan: 3%
            30-days video-only plan: 7%
            Monthly bundle plan: 2%
            Monthly video-only plan: 5%
            Annual bundle plan: 1%
            Annual video-only plan: 3%
            Lifetime bundle plan: 2%
            Lifetime video-only plan: 4%

Loayl users are going to keep their privilege. New users looking into downloads will be offered "Downloads booster" deal and pay per video 👍

Philthy181 I use moonplayer for 'normal' video's and Heresphere via ALVR for PT vids. Yeah, mostly using a windows share indeed to download video's and then stream them to the AVP, works great, but also have a DLNA server as backup, just in case. I don't download to the AVP itself at all.

Objectively this seems kind of bonkers.

Sign up for a lifetime membership with unlimited downloads, then it's lowered once, and then lowered again and then again. Ok, that's unfortunate but it happens with other businesses it's not totally unheard of.
However, this you'll have different limits if you do this, or that and also do this -- but we won't enumerate or codify these changes but trust us just keep jumping through extra hoops. These are not free memberships, lots of people are paying for a service not for some obfuscated scavenger hunt after the fact contract. I understand it's still in development and I am giving the benefit of the doubt because there has been openness about changes. It concerns me that the membership changes if we do A, B, C. What happens in another 6 months do we have an additional V, X, Y, Z hoops to jump.

doublevr changed the title to Downloads plan revamp .

doublevr I currently have an active annual sub and have been a subscriber for years. I live in a small rural town with slow internet (25 mbps) so streaming 8K videos is not an option for me. I have watched SLR slowly restrict downloads and it is concerning.

doublevr I think we should be updating our plans with 30 downloads a month (approximate value) with regular pricing, annuals and lifetimes 40 and 45 respectfully.

Does this mean my annual sub will go from 150 downloads per month to only 40? For the same price?

                doublevr Loayl users

Are these "loyal users" as you defined above being a user who regularly uses streaming in the app, and/or have connected sex toy? Or are you going to extend that definition to include lifetime membership?

maxsavage membership length comes ranking high in the SLR Miles High Club (coming soon) opening up high downloads and other stuff.

There will be an option to get extra downloads monthly for streaming >10 min in the app, watching PT. Sex toy users will also enjoy bigger limits.

erniescar69 it's our top priority to serve users with history. If that's your case download limits shouldn't bother you much 👍

Thanks for the quick reply! However, you didn't really answer my question.

As I stated streaming is not an option for me due to slow speeds from my ISP. I don't use DeoVR nor do I have it installed on my PC and I don't use sextoys like the handy either. So i guess those "extra DL bonuses" won't apply to me either.

"it's our top priority to serve users with history. If that's your case download limits shouldn't bother you much 👍
We know to treat people right."

So...will my downloads go from 150 per month down to 40 for the same annual price?

When will these changes be implemented? My sub is up for renewal in about 5 weeks and if downloads are reduced by almost 75% for the same price then I seriously doubt I would renew.

If SLR goes through with this that is some serious shrinkflation.

Streaming rarely works well for me. It's glitchy and quality almost always suffers.

I may have missed this, but is anyone talking about just eliminating the 'full resolution' versions? Some of these files are over 80GB. So if bandwidth is a problem, start there.
