I'm talking about DeoVR here but since SLR uses it and they're pretty much the same: I really hate the new design. There are some really bad UI decisions that just don't make sense in VR. Like the volume slider has been hidden and is now under a button so that adds a 'click' which is terrible when it's a slider in a pop-up, on top of that they have the slider appear on top of other clickable elements (especially noticeable in SLR app) and those also respond as you're trying to change the volume. Worse part is there is really no reason why the volume slider was changed at all, the location it was in is not used by anything else and it was working fine. It's also one of the controls you use the most between scenes of different studios so to add more complexity to that... it's just bad UI design.
One of the other main complaints with the previous version was that the color correction sliders were way too responsive, you couldn't really fine tune easily. So now they added buttons but those increase/decrease by a fairly large amount so you still can't do any fine tuning. Sliders are still as bad as ever so the real issues are not fixed, they just added nonsensical useless buttons. (A good solution would have been to have a toggle for finetune/normal (or hold a button) to increase/decrease very slowly, with a kind of deadzone so the slightest hand-movement wouldn't massively change the slider position).
To make things even worse, the zoom-in/out function is now ALSO super sensitive. By default it uses the joystick (on the rift at least) which is analogue but there's almost no slow fine tuning possible any more with the zoom. The analogue control is no longer used properly, touch the stick even very lightly and it flies to max zoom in/out. Since it's rare studios have actual good scaling the zoom-function is used a lot and very minor changes are necessary but that's impossible now.
It's kind of unbelievable how DeoVR devs managed to make the player that much worse in one swoop. I even sent the DeoVR team an e-mail about issues before and while they did respond it was clear they did not understand. At this point I'm questioning if they ever use their own product and I'm actively looking for a different/better VR player now. I hope for SLR they manage to turn it around though.
