What highest setting matches the max capacity of the Quest 3? Is it 1920, 2180, 2880, 3700, etc. I don't want to overset the resolution and lose frames per second but I also, of course, want to utilize the best resolution possible.
Best resolution settings for Quest 3
You are worrying about nothing - pick the highest
let's say then more for informational purposes. SLR gives one number, e.g., 1920 or 2880, etc. Does that mean 1920x1920 and 2880x2880 "per eye"? Or something else? Quest 3 is 2064x2208 per eye. My question is what would be the lowest resolution that would max out the Quest 3 specs, 2180, 2880, etc. It would seem that putting is on a 4000+ setting would, if nothing else, simply run down the battery faster and increase the temps and have no other positive effect. Maybe I'm wrong, though. That's why I'm, asking...
jimdogma When you're playing a VR video, you're not seeing the whole video since you can move your head around and see more pixels. You're only watching a "zoomed in" square within the video, so you need to have as many pixels as possible within that square. Just play an 8K scene and compare it to 4K, the difference is very noticeable if it's recorded properly

Yes, when you see the video resolution listed as 3840x1920, it's 1920x1920 for each eye. Each video frame is twice as wide because it contains a separate image for each eye.

You are thinking about this in an overly simplistic way. The 1920x1920 region of the video that is intended for one eye, represents a 180 (or higher) degree field of view. When viewing through the Quest 3 you are seeing only a part of that region because the Quest 3's field of view is about 110 degrees horizontally and 96 degrees vertically. Each eye sees somewhere around 1000x1000 (very roughly) of that 1920x1920 region of the video. Hopefully you can see why viewing 1000x1000 content on the Quest 3's 2064x2208 per-eye display is sub-optimal.
Edit: And to max out the Quest 3 displays you would need videos that are around 12K.
Thanks for the insight!
