Pornhub unavailable in Texas

catflap

Pornhub is not a concern - but when is SLR going to follow suit?

GetReal

In addition to Texas, Pornhub has reluctantly blocked site access for people in other states with age-verification laws, including Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Utah and Virginia.

That site and few others are blocking access to states in an attempt to protest that the laws be thrown out for this ID verification system. However it's pretty likely that they will later on implement the new system unless the protests are successful. However it could go the other way too if no sites implement the new systems there could be states without any access to porn sites.

Some other popular sites that are taking part in that protest https://virtualporn.com/ and https://bangbros.com/ technically those are both owned by the same company. Another popular site on the list is https://www.brazzers.com/ There is a handful of others too and the list is growing slowly.

I hope SLR stays out of the protest personally.

Ahh, gotta love the smell of state intervention in the morning...

The party of individual freedom and small government sure spends a lot of time all up in their constituents private lives.

Damn, things seem like they are slowly picking up, hopefully this will all blow over soon.

The worst part of this legislation is not merely that it is ineffectual, but that it may actually exacerbate the very problem they're claiming to address.

"41% of [middle schoolers] use a VPN to browse the internet ... 58% of teens aged 13-17 have seen adult content accidentally – 18% of which reported that it was on social media ... 41% of teens reported seeing online pornography during the school day, with a shocking 44% indicating that they had seen it on a school-issued device."

Wendigo

doublevr And you wonder why we want to download our porn instead of streaming it...

doublevr

Wendigo why not to do things the right way and stop stupid legislations from happening?

Going to figure that out as society

Wendigo

doublevr Agreed, but few of us have any say in that. The right to stream content is a privilege that can be taken away at any time by any number of people. The items on my hard drive belong to me and are controlled by me. I like it that way.

I live in Utah - one of the crazy states that has an age verification law. I wasn't born here (born in NYC), but my job requires me to be here for the time being. I already have to browse most porn sites with a VPN at lower speeds. Ever tried to stream VR on a VPN? It ain't pretty, and it isn't the experience I'm paying for.

Are you going to give us refunds if our state makes SLR inaccessible? If not, you should chill out on the downloads thing for a while. You'll get a lot more love that way.

SchnuppiLilac

Thinking pragmatically: If I was forced to deal with some age verification system to access the VR sites I subscribe to at acceptable speeds, I would most probably go with it. I am here just for the articles anyway, so I 've got nothing to hide 🙂

catflap

on the plus side, SLR is a "sexual wellness" site, so wont be covered under any ban... right guys?

xHamster down today....

Andrew_SLR

hey,

just to notify you we are monitoring the situation and looking for solutions. for the time being the SLR users will not be affected.

we will keep you posted about any changes.

doublevr

Right now there's only join page available for Texans with login form while we are implementing age verification solution.

Another option would be blurring out thumbnails and words before user proceeds to age verification.

Funny shit

This is a crazy political stunt by one of the craziest republicans in the country. Ken Paxton is under investigations himself.

petermc

I would’ve thought only free sites would have a major issue. For pay sites, like SLR, you effectively have to age verify anyway by giving your credit card or PayPal details. Kids shouldn’t be able to watch stuff behind a paywall unless their parents actively give them their log in details.
