Request: Directors please stop talking behind the camera

Finally got around to checking this scene out "Goth Girls: Tea Party" after missing out on SLR scenes for a bit. The cast is perfect their performance is amazing, but that director's commentary behind the camera kept throwing me off, It's the second time this has happened, and I can't remember where before, and I'm not quite sure if the recent scenes also have this issue.

Someone, please someone tell Alex Nash to stop doing this, I hear you loud and clear shouting in my ear. If you must guide actors through positions, either consider giving instructions to the actresses before each position or investing in discreet tech like those 'Mini headphones' gadgets or scribble instructions on a tablet placed on top of the lenses.

With all due respect, why exactly do you think their performances are amazing? And why do Nash scenes (as a whole) have amazing performances? It’s because he is the director and because he is directing.

What needs to be done is the audio cues needs to be edited out, just like SLRO (and other studios like Wankz, VirtualTaboo, NaughtyAmerica) have been doing all these years. Audio cues have slipped out on those studios too. It’s not specific to Nash.

@justsomedude101 I forget who is handling fixes right now. Can you tag the right person?

(And yes, I do hope the remaining audio cues get fixed in this scene. I figured it was fixed by now due to the “RC2” in the preview picture file name, which suggests revision number 2, but I guess it hasn’t yet based on your assessment).

Chlayt one day I want them to just film it raw and uncut, hottie shows up knowing it's a vr shot, guy is there pov, she talks to us the viewers acknowledging we about to fuck in vr with her, does sum foreplay, sex starts, and director in back ground directs her into different poses and positions.

A voice from the director that didn't get muted out or cut out really doesn't bother me that much cuz I like bts content. 🤷‍♂️

Wish they'd start uploading bonus clips of the directing and bloopers or something. I can imagine how much gets cut out and all that is content that could be uploaded for viewing.

g2kbuffetboy Okay! I feel like you literally took that phrase you quoted as if that's all I've said. Or maybe you read this thread title and came running to tell me how things work. I've watched porn long enough to know how exactly things work here.

I addressed Nash because, according to doublevr, he's now the head of production, and I wasn't even sure if those were his voices directing in those scenes. We got used to only having top-notch scenes from Alex Nash, free of these amateurish mistakes. You know that it's Nash that we're talking about and not some unknown WetVR director. Now if you take a step back and read my entire post, you'll see that I didn't tell him to shut up or to 'stop directing' as you mentioned. I simply offered three alternatives because the issue of poorly editing out these audio cues is becoming too frequent.

Just to be clear, I didn't immediately came pointing out fingers. I checked the comment section in that scene, and apart from one person, no one else had raised or flagged the issue, including you, even though you seemed aware of it.

It's really easy to edit out director speech, the time consuming bit is going to be scanning through the entire audio timeline to track down everything the director says.

Ideally, every scene should be watched all the way through, with a headset on. Can you even do this in real time prior to final rendering? Audio and video glitches can then be noted. Trouble is rendering is such a ball ache with VR, so I understand the reluctance to spend a day rendering out a rough cut.

Chlayt That’s fair, and sorry, I didn’t mean for it to read that way. I read your entire post the first time, it’s just that I can’t imagine writing things on a small chalkboard would work effectively, as they would have to forcefully look off camera for a few seconds to process the direction, and it would really take them out of the moment. The mini headphone is a neat idea but I think would look a little strange as we would be able to see the ear piece, and it would make things more uncomfortable for them as a performer. And regarding giving directions to them before hitting record, I mean I’m just sure that happens already. But as you know, shooting VR is way more complicated than 2D porn. It’s a lot for performers to remember. Look between the lens, come close but stay in frame, whisper here not there, gaze in center and not above, etc.

And regarding the editing, I wouldn’t say it’s happening all that frequently considering how many SLRO scenes have released over the years and you have counted two. For me, I think I remember it happening less than 5 times, which really isn’t a lot. It’s good that you pointed it out though, as some folks mentioned in the video comments too so I figured it was fixed by now (I haven’t been able to watch this scene lately to check myself). Now it seems like a fix is on the way, so thank you for that 👍🏻

You’re right that it hasn’t happened a lot, barely ever in fact, but it just seems to have crept in on 2 or 3 recent scenes in quick succession which is probably what’s made him flag it up.

I too wish they’d find another way to direct the performers as muting the sound isn’t particularly satisfactory either. I don’t know what the answer is though as no one likes cuts and edits because of the whole immersion thing. I thought about holding up signs but, as you said, that means the girls looking off camera.

Small hidden earpiece might work

Or maybe a small LCD screen mounted next to the VR camera lenses that can display a word or two, that way the performer(s) will appear to be looking at the VR user but receiving direction without verbal interruption

Performers will be constantly be looking at the lenses throughout the scene anyway

Post-production team is looking at it, so don't be surprised if you see the scene temporarily pulled from the site for corrections.

@Chlayt Did you watch the RC02 version or did you watch the previous version? Did you watch it on the site or did you download the scene? In the previous version there was a problem where the directors voice slipped a couple of times but in the RC02 version it was fixed.

Moryus I actually downloaded that scene three days before I created this thread and watched it on the same day I started it. RC02 or whatever, it's too late for me now since I've already seen it. Not planning on watching it again, but I'm glad to hear that you fixed the problem. The reason I brought it up was 'cause this problem keeps popping up, happened a few times before. Just wanted to see if we could find some solutions for it. If you have to, no rush on releasing the scenes until they're problem-free.

Usually, I download the scenes on their release day, throw 'em on my headset, and watch whenever I get the chance, when the time and place are right.

+1 And here another video ruined by the "talented" Director shouting to the actress if she's "doing ok" during the doggy position which is so amateur to let the viewer hear that! And don't let me start about the wrong eye contact problem, especially at the end of the video which is another responsibility should the director take in terms of instructing the girls before each scene and each position.
