I paid for Premium membership and so far I have spent over two hours reading forums, googling for answers and emailing slr support and had ZERO luck. Not one helpful answer as to HOW THE FUCK DO I DOWNLOAD A VID AND GET IT ONTO MY GODDAMN HEADSET????? FUUUUUUUCK!

    1. download video
    2. connect quest to pc
    3. put video in DCIM folder
    4. watch vid on quest (any video player), in deovr click on the file explorer and go to DCIM

Appreciate you trying to help but please bare in mind that I am not technically proficient ... I do not have a DCIM folder on my laptop - and yes I have Show Hidden Files, folders ... checked in File Explorer.

whosyourdaty Here is Meta's walkthrough on how to transfer files (in this case videos) to your Quest 2.

The "DCIM folder" mentioned by @adinihsan is actually a folder that exists on your Quest 2, not your laptop, which is why you don't see it. When you've connected your headset to your laptop and given it permission to connect (instructions in the link above), you'll have access to headset's folders via File Explorer on your laptop, and you can then move videos over from your laptop to the DCIM folder of your headset.

But the above link walks through everything step-by-step, so please take a look!

Thank you dude. But the walkthrough is for Transfer pictures or videos from the Quest headset TO the Laptop. Is it the same?

whosyourdaty Thank you dude. But the walkthrough is for Transfer pictures or videos from the Quest headset TO the Laptop. Is it the same?

Mostly the same, yes. But instead of dragging files from your headset in File Explorer over to your PC's folders, you can move files from your PC's folders over to the relevant folders of your headset: movies, pictures, whatever you'd like to have on your Quest 2.

Okay, I guess I'm admitting to being f-ing moron because the only part of this I have been able to accomplish successfully is giving the permission. The walkthrough is not helpful because I want to transfer the file FROM the laptop to the headset.
If I enter the DeoVR app there is a folder icon which I can open and see an empty DCIM folder ... now what?

I never put videos on my headset, all I store there are local funscripts. Read up on xbvr
          https://github.com/xbapps/xbvr
a great free video management sofware. Then stream all downloaded videos from your computer to your headset.

But for now, here is a simple way:

download and install free sidequest app to your pc
          start sidequest app
turn on questx headset, plug it into a usb port on your computer
the first time you will see an authorize window in the quest headset, say yes to allow file transfers
on top menu bar of sidequest click on the folder icon (these are folders on your headset)
          then click on movies directory
drag video from your computer into the sidequest window (video directory)

video is now on your headset and can be played with any vr video player

scrptr9 I appreciate your efforts to help but you may have missed the post where I stated I am not technically proficient. This is apparently an understatement because nothing anyone has told me to try has resulted in any progeress whatsoever - and the github link may as well be Portuguese. You say that you never put videos on your headset but the entire point of the Quest is the stand-alone player. I do not wish to be tethered to my PC. The fact that slr makes it almost impossible to download a video from and onto the headset makes absolutely no sense. I switched from VRBangers to SLR for the huge amount of content but, s0o far, it seems like I made a mistake. VRBangers was so smooth and easy. All videos could be downloaded in the headset with one click. hy is this so seemingly impossible with SLR? FUUUUUUCK!

Once you have your quest connected to PC and given permission, open file explorer on PC

On the left, you will see the quest as a device in the list
In there is the DCIM folder, place downloaded video there

Okay, you've gotten far enough to successfully give your Quest permission to connect. Once you've done that, put the Quest down and leave it connected.

At that point, you should be able to access the Quest on your laptop from This PC -> Quest 2 -> Internal Shared Storage

In there should be a series of folders like Music, Movies, DCIM, Downloads. You should then be able to drag and drop the movie from your laptop to the Download folder from there.

xbvr was just a suggestion as a better alternative to putting the video on your headset. Ignore that part for now.

But also, xbvr does not mean you are tethered to your pc, using xbvr your headset is connected to your computer only by wifi, and streams the videos from your computers hard drive to the quest headset.

Here is a useful link for xbvr help.

I would think very few people ever download videos directly to the headset, as the headset has very little memory and the videos are huge - I have hundreds of videos on my computer (terabytes of storage) that I stream to my headset.

petergriff I'm very appreciative of all that have tried to help but goddamn computers just don't like me ...
my laptop is not recognizing the Quest device . I have plugged the headset in at least eight times and only twice the the headset ask for permissions. I cannot tell you how frustrating this is.

adinihsan Yes sir. It definitely SHOUOLD be simple. Perhaps my ignorance trumps simplicity again ... is the cable that comes with the Quest 2 doe charging the same as the Quest Link cable - in lieu of a USB-C ??

whosyourdaty Either work, you mentioned you gave permission twice, so the cable you used works.
After giving permission simply open files on PC and find your Quest

adinihsan When connected, my laptop is not recognizing the Quest device. It does not appear under "This PC" on the right side of the screen.

whosyourdaty I think once you have put the cable into your headset you have to click on the notifications bell on the home menu in your quest 2 then click on usb detected?
