I am A lifetime premium subscriber to videos and scripts and have used my Handy with DeoVR/SLR for years and been very happy.

However the last few weeks, I have had nothing but problems. I don't know what is going on, if it has something to do with migrating from Quest 2 to Quest 3, or with SLR trying to intentionally hamper Handy so people will buy their own new interactive, but the last few weeks my Handy frequently disconnects, or I get errors when sending the script (something about SSL Trust) and have to frequently restart both DeoVR and The Handy device.

The other night none of my troubleshooting worked at all. DeoVR would constantly connect, then immediately disconnect, then re-connect, and immediately disconnect over and over and over.

I'm at my wits ends at this point, very frustrated and not sure what to do.

Same here. I use it mostly every other night with SLR via Deo and "another competitor site" with Heresphere. It happens with both, but Deo shows a message at least.

What I do is basically a hard reset, unplug, press power button a few seconds while unplugged, power back on again and retry the wifi connection. It solves it for the rest of the night every time.

Agathorn That does indeed sound frustrating - please rest assured there is no intentional hampering whatsover especially as the SLR toy has been postponed for much longer and wont be out anytime soon

As for the Handy frequent disconnects, might I suggest doing 2 things:

    • unplug your wifi router for 10 secs, then plug it back in (power on and off all of your connected playback devices while you are at it)

    • place some strong tape/duct tape on the power connector of your handy (where the plug inserts into the side of the Handy to ensure the plug does not move or loosen at all during use) - loose power plug cables will cause frequent disconnects and script sending errors

    • also ensure handy servers are always online (sometimes they go down) by visiting = https://www.isitdownrightnow.com/handyfeeling.com.html

...oh well, it's not just me then. Yeah, can confirm, Handy was acting like an absolute bastard last night.

i'm sure it's a Handy server thing. i get the impression (yeah, really scientific....) that i'm fighting for connection onto the server. Can be waiting for a few minutes to 'catch' a connection. Once finally properly connected, it seems to be stable for a period of time. Changing the video, adjusting position in the video too much, watching a long scene for a period of time (over an hour?), all these things can cause it to brick up again. Seems to me, it loses its handshake, then has to fight for dominance again. Sometimes you can stop the video, and the Handy just keeps going... forever.... which is entertaining...

Also, this is not restricted to DeoVR, i get it on HereSphere as well. It almost seems worse on HereSphere, though maybe that's just cos DeoVR auto-connects, so it's less immersion breaking.

Gotta say, the whole 'Handy server' thing is the biggest worry with the tech. i'm sure SLR server will face these issues as well. Is this the only answer to the issue of scripts? Can't one host the script on the viewing device but use wifi to connect to the device, via local hub? Can bluetooth get faster?

Honestly, the last thing you want to have to do in the middle of a good fuck is tech support...

    xD

Yesterday I was getting a 400 error trying to activate scripts in DeoVR. The error message suggests an issue uploading the script to an SLR server, but I appreciate this might be Handy infrastructure versus actual SLR servers. There do seem to have been lots of problems recently, though; I found that specifically AI scripts would sometimes stop working at some point and no amount of stopping and re-starting would work until I literally power-cycled the Handy and disabled and re-enabled the connection in DeoVR, and that is very likely to be a Deo issue.

POVR's Connect & Control worked fine with Heresphere in the same session, though, so it can't have been a general Handy server issue.

Basically, DeoVR + Handy has become flaky lately, and wherever the problem lies it's a poor user experience that needs fixing.

It's because of Handy is not properly maintaining v1 api implemented in Deo.
V3 beta will be released in January.
Also SLR webxr player with v2 Handy support will be released in coming weeks.

doublevr So, to be clear, is DeoVR Android for Quest etc being updated to the v2 API? Not just the webxr player? Seems like maybe Handy is preparing to let the v1 API die.

I just upgraded to the quest 3 from the 2 and can say I’ve experienced the same thing with disconnects

BungaBunga there was arrangement to wait until v3 release which got significantly delayed. Waiting for them to roll v3 out. Both webxr and app will be updated to v3 once rolled out

When I received it yesterday and wanted to try it out, I ran into this problem.
Is there anyone more unhappy than me?

...more random evidence based purely on my own speculation that this is, at least in part, Handy server related:

If i use my Handy in the afternoon (15:00 UTC) it's much better behaved, if i use it at night (24:00 UTC) it's not happy, but by the wee small hours it seems a little happier (03:00 UTC). These times coincide with peak activity on Handy servers, if we assume EU and USA are the majority user base, and generally peaks around the early evening time, with a standard distribution either side of a few hours. 24:00 UTC is at the same time as 18:00 PST / 21:00 EST, so peak times for both Europe and USA, hence worst server load.

doublevr Handy is not properly maintaining v1

...thanks for that nugget, explains a lot. Curious if HereSphere are having the same issues with v1 API, would explain why both applications seem fucked at the moment. Any reason not to upgrade DeoVR to v2 in the meantime? Is it just too much work? As a Quest only user, i gotta ask, sorry... xD

Agathorn this gives me hope. I recently JUST tried the Handy with DeoVr and experienced the same issues. I thought all the praise was completely bogus judging by the experience that I was having. I'm starting to think that my first dive into the Handy with VR just happened to coincide with something THEY have going on . . . . hope its resolved soon as I've bout given up!

InfiniteFun Curious if HereSphere are having the same issues

I have experienced none of this with Heresphere. Works seamlessly, as usual.

same connection issues here when I last tried about 2 weeks ago (Pico4)

kashitsusan ME! I've had the handy for several months and apparently when I finally decided to give it a go, everything was messed up. Thought it was just me but obviously not. Very frustrating when you finally get going and BAM . . . lost connection. I was getting ready to just throw it in the trash but decided to check the forums. I now have it set to the side and will continue to come back for comments hoping that everything gets fixed.

            9 days later

The handy has been so frustrating for the last month

The handy always disconnected with DEO but it is getting a lot worse . Tonight it disconnected 25 times. It says things like no response from the server, machine timed out, machine disconnected, script canceled, and a bunch of other things

It takes you away from even watching the scene because you are spending all your time trying to get it to work.

Sometimes it just keeps playing forever even if all pause the scene or leave the scene. In that case you have to go to setting and start all over.
Sometimes it just loses connection from the server and you have to go to the setting to start over.
Sometimes it loses connection and it tries to reconnect. This is better and worse than the other options. Better because it will do it without going to the setting and worse because it keeps writing things right in front of your face. Sometimes it will just keep trying 5 times in a row.

From what I can tell it doesn't look like it is a problem on my end. It seems like it is losing the script somewhere along the way to me.

rerun119 Deo has always (for years) had handy issues for me, I pretty much never use it other than to preview videos. And whenever I decide to give deo another chance, I get the same disconnect issues being complained about here.

And for those saying heresphere isn't working, I can only say I have never had a handy connection issue with heresphere.
