It's pretty good, well worth the money in my opinion. But as @LordCrash says, it's not reality. And the quality varies greatly between studios.
I totally understand though that you probably want to sample some content and see for yourself before you sink more money into a subscription. My reaction was the same. SLR has some free videos here, but I don't think they're 8k.

Most of the other videos have trailers too you can usually watch for free.
But the best option to see what your vr headset can do for free are these videos here on czechvr. This will give you a good idea of what 8k looks like. Less convenient though - you'll need to download these locally before you can play them. But I strongly recommend you try these before returning the headset.

First time I watched one of these in VR I was blown away 🙂
This does raise a good point, SLR may want to consider making 1 or 2 high quality 8k videos available for free for folks to sample. It might help showcase the amazing work you guys do and lead to more subscriptions. @justsomedude101
