Minimum GPU specs for 5K

Hello there.

I'm looking to do a GPU upgrade to be able to play 5k content. I understand that GTX 10 series and above is recommended. Does anyone know what is recomended spec-wise on the AMD side?

I am using the new AMD RX 5700 XT with a Rift S. If anything, my card is overkill for VR in general. I would love to say whether at least this card does the high res videos well, but I'm still really confused about H264/H265, 4k/5k/6k. Someone just tell me what to download, and what app to play it in lol.

SLR is pushing their own app very hard rather than giving any other suggestions, but I have reservations. I don't want it popping up porn all over the place for anyone who puts my headset on. Also, I don't want to stream the movies, I like to have downloaded versions. Can SLR app accommodate these preferences? If not, what should I use?

I wouldn't necessarily go for the minimum recommended. Up until several months ago I had an i5 something (I forget) and a GTX 1060, which was more than adequate per the recommendations. I will say the performance was not great and it often crashed or stalled. It worked, but not great.

I don't think it could reliably play 4k, let alone 5k content.

Now I have an i7 9700K and an RTX 2080 GPU. The difference is night and day. It works great.

Thanks for your input mebejoe, but you didn't mention any AMD hardware. That's great that it works properly on an RTX 2080 which is the top card on the market and should be many times overkill for watching videos.

Since I have the RX 5700 XT, what formats should I be downloading and how should I play them? I'll be more specific as to my setup and problem. I've downloaded 5k both the original and compressed versions, and the frame rate is not smooth at all on the 'SkyBox' player I'm using on my Rift S.
