  • FEEDBACK REQUESTED: Composite/CGI backgrounds for Passthrough scenes

8 days later

This may be boring, but I sort of am a big fan of the studio NOIR and to a much less extent DarkroomVR, specifically for their backgrounds/lighting.

Having a dark/black/low light background really creates a sense of seclusion with that person, intimacy, and it feels like ive been transported into a space with them. Imo static black > PT... also cuz my room is dirty lol.

Some of the CGI backgrounds are like super bright and make me feel like I'm using a Virtual Reality helmet (which...I am right).

The darker backgrounds from Noir (much lesser extent DarkroomVR) make me feel like I'm "under a spell".

So... can't wait for static backgrounds!!!

It's hard to fit your PT models into CGI scenes convincingly because your lighting is so flat, all coming from the front, sort of like a ring light effect but using several strip lights I think. It doesn't look terrible, but it's not "soft" (big diffused key light) like traditional high end / glamor work, there are hot spots and specular highlights typical of direct lighting, and it lacks shape and direction. So wherever you put the models will have inconsistent lighting. Have you guys tried softer light, with a little more direction? Is there no room for a larger diffused light in that little studio or did it complicate the masking? It's not really an issue for PT, where the wow factor overrides everything, but it's not as sexy as it could be.

I want exotic scenes -

Loads of people write on this forum about how they want exotic and adventurous sex with exotic and pervy girls.
I want ordinary sex with beautiful women, but I want the locations to be incredible and wild. If you want some boring bedroom, you can always go back to the passthrough option

Thinking of public places (crowd, public transport), maybe star wars inspired, army, police, etc

catflap Nothing wrong with exotic scenes. These backgrounds were not exotic though, they were fantastical. No real place, no matter how exotic, looks like that. You can see on the first glance that it's CGI and THAT is my issue.

Library - if animation possible, people walking behind the book shelf (visible in the gaps)

    Sauna room

    Cinema

    Basketball court

    Japanese night-time alley rain

    Public shower room

    Public changing room

One day will it be possible to record real-life backgrounds with VR camera and add to pass-through videos?

E.g. actors walking through the scene background/windows, trees blowing in the wind, etc.

This is a great alternative to outdoor scenes that tend to flood light and make the scene blurry. Would also love this is like dungeon, dark, club kind of scenes.

In my opinion the magic of the CG background is giving the crew the best lighting for the most crisp picture you can get in VR and slap it with any background/set that serves the storyline 😊
