doublevr Not sure if you ended up looking into this tablet but I have had mine for a couple of weeks now and I am pretty impressed at the potential of this tech. It's not perfect, it has several quirks and it's definitely not ready for mass adoption, specially for the VR space but boy is it impressive when viewing the correct content.
This thing does support VR content, both videos and photos. I have watched 8k VR videos on this thing, both from SLR and ones I have shot myself with my Canon system.
A few quick notes: It has one playback VR profile for 180 equirectangular viewing, so 190 and 200 fisheye videos are not technically supported but they will still play using the 180 tag, the expected warping at the top and bottom will be present. Just like if you try to view 190 or 200 fisheye videos on a headset using a 180 profile.
Its distance tolerance is much lower than a VR headset, meaning objects have to be about 2 feet away or else it starts to look cross eyed, so VR content looks best when there are any super close subjects, sadly most VR has subjects closer than that, still super cool to view VR content in full 3D on a tablet without glasses.
Right now the table can only play 3D files from its internal memory which is only 128GB so anything you want to watch in 3D must be transferred to the internal memory first, so you really only have about 100GB of free space for media, which for VR is nothing really. They do support playback from a USB C or microSD card but they will not play in 3D. This will come in a later FW update. Could be a deal breaker for a lot of people but I personally dont mind it.
A really cool feature of this tablet that I am actually using a lot is its AI algorithm that takes any of your 2D media and live converts it to 3D. Again, just like with VR, in order to view the media in 3D it has to be stored in its internal memory, but wow is this cool. I took a ton of 4K non VR porn and hentai and watched it all in 3D. It'd processed live on the tablet and the effect is super realistic, in most cases it looks like it was shot natively on a 3D camera. You can see a little bit of artifacts on the edges of moving subjects that have a depth of field to them but wow, its minimal, and watching 4K and even 6K porn converted to SBS 3D that almost looks like it was natively shot in 3D is incredible. I have been watching all my favorite 2D porn in 3D from sites like Vixen and PerfectGozo and UltraFilms. This is one of the features I didnt really expect to use that much before I purchased but after playing around with it for some time it has become one of my favorite things about it. I am also now watching all my 3D content I have shot in the past with my old Sony TD-10 camera. I no longer need to setup my 3D 4K TV and those pesky glasses anymore.
You can take 3D photos and videos with it. I have still not tested video with proper lighting yet but I will soon. There are no manual controls available so that kind of sucks, so you want to have plenty of light to ensure your ISO and shutter speed arent completely whack. But the pictures that you take with it in 3D and under good lighting look incredible.
You can take URL links of any publicly available video, such as youtube or PH and paste it into the video player app and the tablet will convert the videos into 3D as well. So my kids have been enjoying watching their favorite minecraft youtube videos in 3D now.
I have not found a solution to watch SLR videos on here without downloading though. Anything streaming has to be publicly available, meaning not behind any user login walls. SLR would need to probably work with them to develop and app or server access.
Again, plenty of quirks and only really recommended to other nerds and geeks so dont mind being on the fringe of niche products.
Given the distance required for good 3D on this tablet, something like the CALF camera would be perfect for this tablet, since the CALF camera is not really made for super closeup subjects since it has that weird masking at the top and bottom of the image, it would be perfect for this. I might have to pick one up later but for now I will simply make sure to keep a further distance when shooting content specifically for the tablet.
If anyone has any questions about this thing let me know.
