  • Videos above 2160p start getting choppy

Videos above 2160p will get really choppy especially when I move my head and it gets a lot of colored pixelation but only around the models faces. I'm not sure what's going on. This has been going on for a couple of months now and part of the reason I haven't been reupping my subscription.

I'm on a valve index. Running on Windows 10 with an rtx 3080, 5800x, and 32gb ddr4. I've never had any issues in the past. I had just recently got a new valve index trident cable because my old one died so I don't think the problem lies with the headset.

Another thing that's strange is if I do any video playback with the headset on i.e. playing a video on VLC player, it will occasionally freeze my entire headset display for a few seconds.

Any solutions would be much appreciated. I have tried reinstalling steam vr as well but no luck.

Probably a stupid response but I find it choppy when watching in H264 which it sometimes reverts back to in DeoVR. Changing to watch in H265 fixes the issue.

I’m sure you’ve probably checked that given everything else you’ve done but, just in case!

petermc I have exactly this issue. One day everything is working fine, the next DeoVR has reverted to H264 anything above 5K is unwatchable. Changing back to H265 fixes the issue.

The setting is not in an obvious location either, so easily missed.

petermc I actually didn't check that... thanks I'll give it a try

Edit: Yep that was the fix. Thanks!
