  • FYI: There is an easy way auto create subtitles for JAV etc.

So I found a new way to auto transcribe JAV that works really well and though I'd share it here. I used to do this with the Google translation API but that was okay at best. This one is based on the open source whisper AI of OpenAI and is much better. Basically everything that was said in the JAV movie I tested was properly translated and it had a lot of dialogue to. Very cool.

It can be used by a GUI or using the command line. It's also very easy to set up although it's not as easy as installing an exe (took me about 5 minutes for the gui and another 15 for GPU support). The good thing is that everything is run locally and is nice and quick too (I do have a good GPU though). Here is the link of the library: https://github.com/tomchang25/whisper-auto-transcribe

Just thought I post it here if anybody else here is interested in good automatic translations for their JAV files (or any of the other 98 languages for that matter).

I've seen some Whisper auto-generated JAV subtitles done the way you describe and the quality is more miss than hit. It's better than nothing and for personal use, borderline OK. The translation--and this was a simple solo affair with the actress talking very clearly without anything else going on--was ho-hum but the timing was way off.

if you can translate EBVR-006 without it mentioning anything about a Car department, then it might be okay possibly 🤔 thats the scene i have had translated using of those programs and then a professional translation by an individual to compare accuracy. the program was all over the place lol with random things

Bucket619 Yea, this is a big issue. With VR I think auto-translation can be marginally OK, but JAV even at the high-end often is less than perfect when it comes to clear audio. At the end of the day, a human who knows what they are doing can produce much more accurate subtitles at almost the same speed if not faster (when you factor in needing someone to look over those auto-translations and attempt to fix them).

Yeah, so of course a human speaking both languages fluently will be better. Still, when you use the large model the results are really good for an ai. The best I've seen so far. I don't speak Japanese so I can't vouch for the accuracy but the two movies I watched seemed to be translated well. Maybe it varies, or has difficulties with slang? I don't know.

Now if you want prefect subtitles you'll probably have to wait a few more years. If you want very decent subtitles however...

fenderwq There is a big difference between "translated well" and "translated well". Perfect grammatical sentences are great, but if the meaning is totally wrong and the timing breaks are unnatural, it's unsatisfactory.

At first glance it seems beyond my technical ability to figure out how to install and work that program, but maybe it's not as complicated as it seems. I wish there was an easy way to translate. It is pretty frustrating to love JAV and their deep immersion but have no idea what they're saying.

ZENRA I tried a few more vids and they where still good but I noticed some more of these miss translations. I guess it depends on how normal the situations / dialog is.
Still, jav with subtitles is a lot more fun and I'm not willing to put in a lot of effort or money into translating them. So this seems the best we can do for now under these circumstances. Still, with how quickly Ai is evolving we probably don't have to wait long for a modal that is even better.

i agree that the subtitles do provide another layer of immersion and that is why after i gave the ai subtitles a shot i just couldnt… not on my favorite scenes and so i had 3 translated to have base points for proper accuracy with 1, 2, and 3 actresses to see how the AI would do when multiple voices were present . and yea i just couldnt. But hey if it works for you then hell yea. as for me it did not

fenderwq For personal use, it may be OK. Honestly, no matter how 'good' AI gets, it probably won't ever be able to do perfect subtitles if we're talking big group productions. My bar for "these are great captions" is Japanese variety TV. The content may be junk most of the time, but their captioning is a work of art done by poor underpaid souls. Even 'professional' subtitles I see on Netflix often have issues. The only type of AI I hope gets better is one that can at least speed up timing even fixing bad timing is a timely (no pun intended) process where a skilled person can simply do it from scratch faster than it takes to correct it.
