If anyone can make VR a desirable thing, it’s probably Apple so I hope it’s the start of VR becoming huge. All I’m saying is, if they ultimately can’t (and I agree they’ll have more up their sleeve than this one headset) I’m not sure who can or who else would even try. Like I said Meta have undoubtedly made an impact and totally cornered the market in headsets but it hasn’t become what they hoped it would become, at least not yet. From all accounts they are losing money on this venture and lots of it. Luckily they have other things that make tons of money so they can afford to take a short term hit whilst (they hope) the whole metaverse thing eventually takes off. They’re obviously deeply invested enough in this to keep going for now but they won’t keep at it forever if they’re just burning through money. They may decide to step back until the technology improves in the coming years to the point where maybe VR will be a pair of glasses or contact lenses or until all this NFT/Blockchain/Cryptocurrency stuff becomes more widespread to make the metaverse viable.
Obviously I’m hoping VR and (more importantly VR porn) becomes huge so it’s exciting that Apple are going to enter the market. I just have that niggling doubt in my brain, if this doesn’t work, where does it leave VR going forward?
