  • Stream error with DeoVR Cardboard App

Hello there, maybe anyone else has or had this problem as well: wenn trying to play videos it takes a few seconds, then it says:

"stream error: unexpected error. Java.lang.illegal.ArgumentException (4)".

Too bad, because purchased videos cannot be played anymore. Does anyone know help?
Technical conditions:
Smartphone Samsung Galaxy A13 5G, Android 13, max. display resolution: 720x1600 pixel – maybe that is too low because of the higher resolution of the video?

GreenTree Unfortunately the SLR app/DeoVR haven't been supported on iOS/Android for quite some time (well over a year now). There are a number of reasons for this, but the primary reason is that many phone-based VR headsets have been deprecated by their own creators (Google with the Daydream/Cardboard, Oculus/Meta/FB with GearVR, etc.), which means that we are likewise unable to support these devices (or more specifically iOS/Android).

There is no currently supported version of either the SLR app or DeoVR for iOS/Android, so any version you may be using or that you may come across would be unsupported and would likely lack full functionality, for example with something as simple as video playback

The only real suggestion I can offer would be to consider upgrading to a dedicated VR headset if and when you're in a position to, for example the Quest 2 or any PC-based headset. Many users find the jump in visual quality & immersion when moving from a phone-based device to a dedicated VR device to be huge. Thanks a lot for your reply and explanations. If I may respond, I would like to add the following:

Actually it was possible to use the DeoVR app on Android at least until April 2023, this was tested with a Samsung Galaxy S10 plus (max. display resolution 3040 x 1440 pixel). Video playback and as far as I know all other functions worked as well. That's why I do not really understand, why it should or does not work on other Samsung Smartphones with Android. – However not everyone is able or wants to effort the costs of a rather professional VR headset like the mentioned ones above. The quality might be better. I am not trying to argue on that point. The point I really would like to make is the following: I think it is better (and maybe also in the economically interests of SLR) to offer a VR app and support for Smartphones which are even used with a very simple Cardboard VR Headset for a few dollars. Such an unperfect VR Headset might be better than no (effortable) VR Headset at all. I would be glad if this could be taken into consideration for future decisions concerning this matter.

Were you cardboarding it or using gear vr?

But I can watch vr videos on my phone just by going to slr site push play and push the Lil vr goggle icon and its in vr mode but I would need a cardboard type of headset to use it in vr or I'm sure I could put in my gear vr and it'll work like cardboard headset

But honestly going back to cardboard style or gearvr after the quest 2 would be a huge down grade, I loved my gear vr had Hella great times with it, was great streaming many files from my computer using sky box vr, deo vr played great on the gear, but one thing I hated was not all vr sites streamed on deo vr, upgrading to quest 2 now many vr sites stream on deo vr, so no doubt you'll have more content available to you if you ever upgrade. 👍

But try going to the slr site and watch in vr, should work.

Lol, honestly I really saw no difference switching from a s10+ gearvr to the quest 2 in picture quality, I was able to watch 6khd on my s10 but I was fine with 4k files, took up less space. The quest 2 has these ring glares that took me a while to get use to. Gearvr literally had no glare at all.

But switching to a quest 2 or any new headset you won't be left behind on the technology.

If you decide to upgrade I'd go with a quest 3, coming out soon I guess.

And the PASS THROUGH! You'll be able to bring some hotties into your own bedroom 🛌 🥵😄

      Gotta upgrade G! 👍

Yeah man, try going to slr in your browser on your phone, push play and at the bottom push the Lil vr goggle icon it'll be in cardboard mode and it has the slr player too, so if you have a remote with your cardboard headset you'll be able to click on settings for zooming and tilting.
