What about a beam splitter camera rig? It looks like that can adjust the convergence down to 0 for close up shots. That should clean up any of the double vision effect.
It's a new camera setup though so bleh... It would also have to adjust the convergence quick enough to keep up with the performers, no idea if that's possible.
