sylvan Well will you look at that. I did this and downloaded the version from november 2023 and it is working...for the most part. The frame rate is back to normal, the seek time is normal (still sucks), the jittery lines are gone. The only problem is it isnt letting me set/use most of the keys on my controller. It shows the windows mixed reality controllers. But other than that it works. I should have known this because i used to do downgrades to beatsaber when it would mess up my custom songs, but not in this exact way. I wish the devs would have told me this in january that a user was able to figure out. Cant downgrade? Just did... What a waste of time and they're so useless. If you cant figure things out in a reasonable time frame then give us temporary fixes like this USER just gave me.

Switched from virtual desktop to quest air link and now its detecting the right controllers and letting me set hotkeys. It also has the old functionality where im able to open another window with deovr open that i liked and they removed in an update. Seriously a waste of time they couldnt just give me this knowledge to downgrade. Did you devs really not know deovr could be downgraded in this way by downloading an old version from steamdb?

Let’s keep a focus on tech side of things.
DeoVR streaming v local playback is more of political debate we can have in a separate thread

Oh man now i can use deovr and heresphere at the same time so i can compare videos. Thats something i was looking forward to doing when the new super GPUs released and i upgraded from a 1080ti that wasnt powerful enough. Something i wanted to use the power of the new GPU for. But a month or 2 before those GPUs released SLR decided to release an update that screwed that up and made it impossible. Now the fix was this freakin easy. Too late now im not reupping. SLRs customer service sucks. This was such an easy "fix" (downgrade) that took 10 minutes.

doublevr Dude this is not local playback. This is streaming from deovr (from my PC to headset, but still streaming, not downloaded videos).

And in what way is streaming vs playing from a hard drive political? what the hell lol

doublevr I dont understand the difference between streaming from deovr/pc and cloud streaming. Its streaming. And im at a loss for words how anyone could call that political...like..what?

So did you guys not know that deovr could be downgraded in this way?

Oh this also reminds me that this proves it was not a meta quest update since now that i was able to figure out how to downgrade to an earlier deovr version it is now working. Like i said before it was that update.

ThorOfAsgard I can see that you had faced lots of issues with performance on your PC setup. Have you tried setting the " Set Steamvr as Openxr runtime" via the SteamVR setting? I remember last November-Decemberish when SteamVR jumped into V2 and it had made lots of mess to lots of OpenXR-based HMD.

damson Can you explain what Openxr runtime is? I have problems with steam also not working with DEO.

              4 months later

rerun119 Apologies for the delayed response. I hope you've been able to resolve the issue by now. OpenXR serves as the runtime component needed for Quest device users on PC to run VR applications. You can toggle this switch on from the Meta Quest link app General tab.

Since we're discussing HereSphere in comparison to DeoVR, I wanted to share some observations I made regarding image sharpness and quality. Specifically, I’m comparing the DeoVR app, DeoVR WebXR, and the HereSphere app.

              Tested Device: Meta Quest 3
              Media Used: 8K – Master Training (https://www.sexlikereal.com/scenes/master-training-49362)

The DeoVR WebXR player was accessed via the Meta Quest Browser, while the DeoVR app and HereSphere were tested using their respective native Quest applications.

              Observations:

              1. DeoVR App (Stream):
The DeoVR app stream offers good clarity but appears slightly softer compared to the HereSphere player. This softness is likely due to video compression during streaming. For example, if you observe the hard edges and straight lines in the background, HereSphere renders these with noticeably sharper precision.

              2. DeoVR WebXR (Stream):
The DeoVR WebXR stream delivers a sharpness level similar to the DeoVR app but with slightly softer edges. This could be due to rendering limitations or the way the Meta Quest Browser handles WebXR content, which can sometimes reduce overall sharpness.

              3. HereSphere (Local Playback):
HereSphere provides the highest level of sharpness and clarity among the three. Both the subject and background details appear significantly crisper, with no visible compression artifacts likely due to the advantages of local playback over streaming. Additionally, HereSphere’s color balance is more pronounced, resulting in a more lifelike appearance with enhanced lighting and contrast.

Don't just take my word for it! 😊 Check out these comparison videos and see for yourself, you be the judge!
*It’s important to note, however, that the differences in sharpness among all three are very minor for any non-judgemental eyes. The distinctions highlighted above are subtle, and most users would only notice them upon close inspection, try inspecting this video on a 4K screen for better visibility.

              Zoomed 4X

              Zoomed 6X

              Zoomed 8X

              Let me know your thoughts!

damson Media Used: 8K – Master Training

Which 8K file did you download for the local playback, 16 GB (Max 8K) or 81 GB (Original 8K)?

                  14 days later

SchnuppiLilac curiosity here on what difference would one see between those two 8K versions? (im a noob to how these resolutions work) and also considering heresphere due to the issue with subtitles on DeoVR recent version.

Bucket619 The difference that there is is that the 'Original' file in the Master Training example has a bitrate of 142 Mbps while the 'Max 8K' version is transcoded/compressed from the 'Original' and has a bitrate of close to 30 Mbps for a good streaming experience. So the 'Max 8K' is the 'Original' minus 80% of its data.

Question now is, will you actually notice a difference when watching these two versions, let's say on a Q3? I think it's safe to say that five times higher bitrate will not make the visual quality being perceived as five times better. But you may perceive it as an improvement (the magnitude of improvement being highly subjective).

I would recommend to test it on yourself by downloading and comparing both versions of the same scene. https://www.sexlikereal.com/scenes/master-training-49362 is a good example as the 30 Mbps version looks very good already. Maybe look at skin texture in close-up positions when looking for differences. If you personally don't notice an improvement, you may save yourself the hassle of downloading giant files in the future.
