Original files in SLR Originals in 60fps??

Is the original size file in SLR originals has a better quality than the 120fps file (which is smaller)?
What is strange is that the original file only has a 60fps.
How is that possible? Has anyone tried both and compaired quality? I'm on Pimax 8KX

Original files are 60 fps and a bitrate of around 150mbs and have a better quality. But any current headset is unable to play them at that rate.
So for original videos are converted into manageable bitrate, but the fps is still 60 and resolution is same as original.

chtonia I have an 8KX too and the originals do look better and more life like. As long as your video card is good enough they can be played fine. It's still 60FPS but less compressed and looks sharper. The only downside is they are large.

slr used to convert some scenes to 120 fps when they were originally captured at 60 fps

spacepirate Yes you can play original files using oculus link or if you upload it on the headset.
But what I'm saying is with 150 mbs bitrate and at a framerate of 60 fps any headset will struggle to play 6-8K footage at a constant 60 frames per second. It will be lagging.

Almost every headset is able to play them, even Quest 2.

metaverse well the whole statement... quest 2 (and no doubt other headsets based on xr2 chip) can play videos with over 150 mbps bitrate.

when using oculus link cable with a quest 2 it officially supports bitrates of up to 500 mbps. air link allows up to 200 mbps but it has an artificial cap because meta knows that people will otherwise try to use like 500 mbps and their wifi wont be fast enough.

mirdumar i was talking about original files which are up to 100 gb, 150 mbs and 60 fps, which is out of any headset capacity. To clarify even more i mean if you upload that original file on your headset and try to watch it.

Your GPU isn't strong enough for 8k, motherboard has nothing to do with it.

chtonia It's really just about the video card for this. I have an RTX 3080 and I have the HEVC decoder from the Microsoft store installed. Those two things make it work for me.

What are you talking about? Quest 2 is capable of playing high bitrate files without lagging, even 8K 180mbps (i have tried it, it plays without FPS drops), as is every other new standalone headset.

I don't know the max bitrate Quest2 can handle, as my highest bitrate files have 80Mbps (which work totally fine) but it's important that you stay within the supported 8K resolution for hardware decoding of h265. For h264 the limit is 4K. Same for nVidia cards (since 10xx generation). Older AMD cards can't handle those files at all.

If you use a link cable with your Quest, the decoding is done by your PC, so in that case the max. bitrate of your link cable or Quest 2 doesn't matter at all. Transfers over link cable get reencoded, so you don't keep the bitrate of your source file anyway.

That's why Heresphere + SMB or Heresphere + XBVR are recommended for Quest 2 users. That way your files are decoded on your Quest 2 without the loss you would have through link cable.
