Vrsumo2017 thanks! I’ve finally decided to do the Haley Spades scene for SLRO to see if it can be properly edited. It’ll have a music track and I’m hoping it can be given the same love that we did for the Haley scene.
If this comes out ok then it might be worth experimenting with different backdrop & suit colors so it works with brunettes, but that’s for another day. If we stick with the black background, I’d probably go with a dark skin male talent so he wouldn’t need to wear a black condom.
LordCrash I am inclined to agree about the gimmick factor as “pass through” is just AR by another name. What is done today are just stepping stones for what’s to come tomorrow, so I always remind myself that “this is not the thing, this is the thing that gets us to the thing.” (Halt & Catch Fire).
VR is still young so there’s a lot of latitude to try things strategically. Some see this and think “only for pass through”, but I see it as another experiment just like all of the other black void dancing girl scenes, based off of the Haley Spades scene, which to be frank I had no hopes for the day after we shot it; performance was great but I was disappointed that my “vision” of projected video in the background during sex didn’t happen and thought it’d be a failure. Obviously I couldn’t predict the future, or that with some audio work and a shit ton of denoise & sharpening, people would have liked it so much. I guess it just goes to show you that there’s no point in shitting on yourself, just give it a month and you can wade through shit in the comments section

BUT, we are still learning how to shoot the scenes for best result. We don't yet have an actual Quest Pro or Pico 4 available to test. - We also rather develop the techniques instead of waiting x years to then copy others.

You can't go from non-existence to perfection in first generation. You need all the steps in between to develop. Usually, even the whole technology changes on how it is accomplished.
It's like not getting a Quest Pro because the Oculus Go lenses are crap. The lenses not only are simply better, they are a different technology.
Look how much smaller the displays can be. Which is beneficial for battery life, heat, pixel density, sharpness and refresh rates.
For passthrough we aren't even using alpha channels yet. Which would increase the quality tremendously! (This is a limitation with mp4 mostly, not because it's not possible)

I can remember a time when I use to watch porn with squiggly colored TV lines, so I'm ok with the passthrough not be perfect at first. But right now it's decent enough in its first stage. 
Kinda just been using it most the time now.
