So, I love VR so much that if I had was what you're working with, I'd still use it.
If it crashes, restart. It's still fun! And apps like SLR work so much better now
I've been very fortunate the last few years. Unbelievably, last year during the height of the GPU shortage, I found an HP Omen on sale with an i9 processor, an RTX 3080, and 32g of ram for about $2,500. And even though it's an HP, it's set up so it can be upgraded. This works great with my current favorite headset, the HP Reverb+. And also with the Oculus Rift S and Samsung Odyssey.
Right before that, I had an i7 with an RTX 2080. That worked fine.
But four or five years ago, my set up was similar to yours, and I had the first version consumer version of the Oculus and it was shaky, but usable. But we only had 4K videos.
Before that I had the Oculus DK2 (developer's model) and that was terrible.
