So, i guess i wanted to write about my success story with oculus go and how SLR improved it all for me. Crazy that SLR has got so good over these years and i really admire the service, i was hesitant to get the quest 2 because i used my brothers and didn't feel it was much better and i hated my experience with oculus services (terrible) and pairing it with the fleshlight launch was a nightmare back in the day, i was determined to not get a quest/meta product and wait for a non facebook VR that was good for video playback, without the pimax price tag. Still waiting.

Back in the day i remember pressing play on slr videos exactly 0:00 at the same time as scriptplayer bluetoothed to the FL launch with a cheap chinese bl dongle and getting scripts from third parties before SLR had them, whirligig was only in closed beta for the oculus go which never got timecode server features and the quest 1 and android version of whirligig was the only way you could get timecode data, so no timecodes this meant you couldn't skip at all and you had to listen to the porno dialog, then try and make it through the scene start to finish - it was only when SLR came to the rescue and made a companion app that i could use scripts with their new script services that had timecode ability, but the iphone version was delayed for roughly 3-4 months - i remember when the iphone version released i was over the moon.

fast forward a year or more and The Handy become the new hot thing, i could simply enter a code into DeoVR! this was great.

fast forward and after returning from a hiatus from SLR the oculus go has (rightfully) been abandoned, i try everything to solve why scripts no longer work. The blue enable script button has disappeared, even when 'connected' to handy

so i think, perhaps its because i wasn't subscribed to the 'new' scripts service, i was simply trying to use standalone purchased scripts of old? disappointed i give up, a week or so passes and i get a month of scripts subscription, determined to find the problem.

i try every single troubleshooting method that the handy has, verifying it wasn't the handy - that's when i consider maybe its the app version of DeoVR, the handy code registers as 'connected' but the enable scripts button had disappeared?

so i get thinking, i need a more modern DeoVR, i need a desktop version..... it's on steamVR! hilariously, i launch virtualdesktop server on the oculus go and launch DeoVR on steam

bam! DeoVR is suddenly way more up to date and my scripts are working!
but what was more amazing? since forever the ogo would lag if you ever tried to playback content higher that 1920p, the 2160p content would cause the ogo to stutter - but DeoVR via virtualbox/steam meant that it was pre-processed and i could CRANK it to 2900p - yeehaw i overheat and crashed that SOB in like an hour, hilarious, love it - looks great though. 😆

Thanks for story!

That sounds great. I'd love to be able to do that with my Oculus Go, but I assume you have to go into developer mode to install virtualbox. I know so little about Android tinkering that I'd probably fuck up my headset somehow.
