  • Can I download from 2 devices at the same time?

I'm traveling with 2 devices (Desktop+Laptop).

The hotel I'm staying at for the next month throttles internet speed per-device to like 5MBs (downloads are like 500kbs from SLR). Is it okay if I download from both devices at the same time since it will take forever to get videos? Or will it 'flag' my account?

Thanks

steakwizard I believe that as long as they are on the same external IP address yes - you can have multiple devices using SLR.

It will probably take forever to get your video, but...I mean that's just based on the wifi speeds of every hotel I've ever stayed at 😅

edit: oh I somehow didn't even notice the throttled speed you mentioned until I saw @GetReal's comment. 😬

If you have space on your phone and unlimited mobile data, it would probably be faster speeds then that wifi you mentioned.
I always download from my phone the app I use is ADM. It's much faster than the wifi in my area.

It would not surprise me the downloads will fail or be incomplete. SLR does parallel streaming/download. With such small bandwidth AND sharing the internet connection with every one else in the hotel....
I would recommend forcibly limiting SLR downloads to two parallel downstreams per device, maybe even one, but i think two will do better. You can experiment with upping it, but that you'll have to do between each download session.

Also please be careful using public wifi! The public wifi itself isn't the issue, it just attracts malicious actors that can 'sniff' your data being sent. You are literally sending it in all directions. Not just the WiFi access point.

Rakly3 I'm using a VPN on both devices, not sure if that matters.

I'm not familiar with 'parallel downstreams' to be honest, not sure what that is. I've been trying to download the files with Internet Download Manager, but I get mixed results, most downloads fail even when only attempting one at a time. I've had a few large ones work though. Is there a different program I need to be using in order to 'save' where the download left off before it timed-out/failed? IDM just starts the download over from the start again when it happens.

steakwizard lower the total amount of max simultaneous connections in the settings of the DL manager. Because of how long your downloads will take, queuing them up will likely fail too.

The idea behind a download manager is that it opens multiple connections for a download file. With SLR, this happens even when you're not using a download manager. Browsers don't always handle this well, and other issues could occur, but it's too much technical stuff to go into.

So in your specific situation, we are trying to limit the simultaneous connections because of reasons in an attempt to make the downloads not fail so easily.
