  • SLR and Compliance

Hey there!

I’m Polar and I’m the compliance lead at SLR. I’m responsible for ensuring that SLR is a place where adults can explore their sexual needs and achieve sexual wellness in a fun, safe, consensual, legal and ethical environment.

Our approach to compliance is kink and fetish agnostic. We never want to “yuck” someone else’s “yum.” That said, we do have some content which we as a platform are unwilling to host, and there is also content which external pressures mean we cannot host.

SexLikeReal stands for sexual wellness. That means everyone in the content and their characters must consent to what is being portrayed. Content where someone lacks the capacity to consent, or is PORTRAYED as lacking that capacity, is unacceptable. That means if someone is portrayed as being underage, drunk, asleep, drugged, hypnotised or lacks the capacity to consent for any other reason we don’t want that content on our platform. We also won’t host content which is presented as being non-consensual. If you see something that you think meets these criteria, we want to know about it.

Whilst we would love to host all other legal content where everyone is consenting, there are some formal regulations imposed by financial, hosting and other service providers we are happy to respect.

SexLikeReal is sparking a public debate of what’s cool and what’s not, in order to bring clarity for the community and creators, while respecting everyone’s right as consenting adults to express themselves freely. I’m currently working on new guidelines for all our content partners that I will share with the community.

I’m really excited as you are one of the most passionate and engaged communities I have come across. I can’t wait to hear your input.

    Great intro Polar 👍

We are looking for more people joining our compliance team to do content checks and move the whole thing forward.

If we manage to get a proper roadmap with everyone involved including regulators and financial sector it will greatly benefit the whole industry and all of us.

What about consent under duress? Many classic porn scenarios are kind of based on a bit of light blackmail. For example ‘I caught you cheating on your boyfriend and I’m going to tell him unless you do something for me!’ The girl then consents to stay out of trouble but is it really consent? Can also be in reverse with the girl blackmailing the guy to have sex with her. I’m not talking about super dark stuff here, just fairly standard porn tropes “what are you prepared to do to get this job” etc.

Seems like you are ok with golden shower scenes but what about other fetish stuff like rough sex, messy blowjobs where the girl accidentally (or deliberately) throws up, BDSM. There are one or two scenes on here with some rough elements like face slapping but curious whether there is a line as to what you allow. Assuming consensual scenes of course.

I'm glad your keeping the site in a comfortable setting for the masses. No one wants to be browsing through a site they like to get grossed out by something that makes them just want to leave. I do however like hypno personality because I know it's a fake kink but there is other things that gross me out and I don't want to see them and if hypno is like that to some others then it's better that no one has to feel uncomfortable browsing at SLR.

Good, I don't want to see any of that filth that you can find out there on other porn sites. Teens are my favourite, but I do not like seeing them forced into acts that they don't enjoy. Women are more attractive when they feel comfortable and are enjoying themselves. I want VR porn to be a breath of fresh air in comparison to all the other degrading trash out there.

        Polar “yuck” someone else’s “yum.”

I just wanted to say thank you for using this phrase. I thought I was the only one on earth who used it 😅

GetReal No one wants to be browsing through a site they like to get grossed out by something that makes them just want to leave

Yet I do. I don't get grossed out by anything in porn actually. I do get bored by all the vanilla stuff out there though. And there are tons of boring porn sites out there but almost none with actually interesting and more filthy content, especially not in VR and in North America.

And I'm sick of all the people who try to censor anything they personally don't like. You know what the religious right claims? That "the masses" are grossed out by porn in general. By this logic this site shouldn't exist at all.

I still have hope that this site will feature every(!) pornographic kink that isn't prohibited by laws of the state in which SLR operates or by other stuff like financial regulations they can't avoid. They certainly shouldn't self censor themselves only to please to a self-proclaimed majority of people who want to dictate which porn is allowed and which is not.

might be able to see his point if this was a VR site from playboy VS an aggregation site of hopefully ALL producers out there in the world

might have upchucked a bit reading about the vanilla aspect....there are plenty of things I would LIKE to see that are vanilla - the producers HAVE the girls, paid for the shoot, and BEEN whiffing every single time on it.

VR is perfect to experience shit you would never experience in real life

i might help on this stuff if there was a warning list made we could download it before it was deleted...looks like you took care of most of em

spanker VR is turning into a global phenomena and we don't want to mess it. For every 1 pulled video 10 new ones are coming that are making us much better people.

I see a lot of positive in compliance if done right. Keep in mind no one is doing it like us. Everyone is going to win with a great compliance on sexlikereal. It's going to impact the whole porn industry if we succeed.

Porn is stigmatized for all the stupid things happening there. We can bring it to the point when it's going to be cool to enjoy it.

The biggest thing that we don't know exactly what to comply with. We are talking to multiple organizations and people to to find out what everyone is going to be cool with. We just say there's no way to do it prefectly, but let's be clear where are we coming from and west we are doing.

              What about consent under duress?

Great point and something which we have considered. The golden rule we work to is that "Consent must be freely given and continuous. Any performer or character can withdraw consent for any time, and for any reason."

Where we have the classic "caught doing something wrong and want to cover it up trope" we will look at which character is instigating the activity. If someone offers to have sex with someone else to keep a secret, that is probably going to be ok. If someone coerces someone into sex with threats of blackmail that is not truly consensual.

I do however like hypno personality because I know it's a fake kink

We know it's fake too, but unfortunately it's not something we can permit.

It's a good phrase. Live and let live.))

              ..." illegal in some jurisdictions:"

All porn is illegal in some jurisdictions. It is impossible to comply with all the laws of all the repressive regimes around the world and still operate an adult site. In fact, even this forum would be illegal in certain jurisdictions. If you can point me to the laws of a functional democracy which makes a specific scene illegal I will consider how to bring that scene into compliance.

If it helps I can promise that we won't be allowing any content based on Genesis 19:6-8 (non-consent,) Judges 19:22-25, (also non-consent,) or Numbers 5, (magical rituals involving poison to prove adultery...)

              LordCrash

That's the ultimate goal. There is always going to be content which is not to your own personal taste. The goal is to allow people to express themselves and explore as freely as possible.

Polar Numbers 5, (magical rituals involving poison to prove adultery...)

                thank god for that!!

It's a pity that the compliance would damage the freedom of performance ,this could trash many JAVs.
I don't understand why those materials cannot be used since they are also used in the hollywood movies.
(of course hollywood is much more powerful)
But if SLR cannot go on without it , then so be it, I can live with that.

Polar If someone offers to have sex with someone else to keep a secret, that is probably going to be ok. If someone coerces someone into sex with threats of blackmail that is not truly consensual.

I guess it comes down to how it is actually portrayed. It's a thin line but you can see pretty well if an actress is really frightened or whether she is only role-playing or even in on the game. There is a big difference between a girl crying and being actually violently forced into sexual action and stuff (which has no place around here) and a girl that only plays the reluctant girl that happily blows some cocks after a few minutes. Stuff like Pure Taboo on Adulttime or DarkRoomVR is clearly in a grey area but I think it's still pretty visible that it's just a role-playing game and that nobody is actually forced into sex. I hope that you at least give people some room to shoot taboo and "darker" stuff.

morimichi once we figure it out and come out with comprehensive rules creators will be making new videos more freely.

I do agree some of JAV stuff is too much. Porn might be perceived much better than what it is now if we succeed.

I get it. Keeping with Leeroy's theme from earlier, we would not be allowed to host something like Mel Gibson's "The Passion."

I completely agree that there is a thin line and SO many shades of grey. One of the rules we have to adhere to is that

                    ...marketing and search terms (must) not give the impression that (the) content contains... depiction of nonconsensual activities;

I think there is a balance to be struck. We are currently having internal conversations about how to best facilitate power play and consensual "non-consent" scenes and scenarios whilst complying with financial industry rules. Some of the most popular BDSM niches and even something as benign as tickling fetish videos may conceivably feature a performer saying "no" as part of the play. One option may be that we start asking producers to include footage where the actual safe-words and stop-words in place for a scene are disclosed. Maybe the community has other ideas. I would love to hear them!

What I can promise you is that our overriding goal is to find ways to facilitate legal and consensual material and I have no truck with people saying something should be banned, just because it is not to their taste.
