Hello,
HP Reverb G2, 5700 XT
I'm experiencing strange behavior when attempting to stream 2700p H265 90fps videos (is this optimal for this headset to keep the video smooth when there's movement?) in both DeoVR and SLR VR. Videos play perfectly smooth until I even point the controller at the video controls. Once I do that, the app fps drops from about 60 to single digits, making everything erratic. I close the video, performance is immediately restored in the browser section. Anything under this like 2160p H265/264 60fps has no issues. Downloaded videos don't have this problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.
edit:
I somehow got good playback doing something like this:
-uninstall amd driver
-reboot
-use amdcleanuputility as directed on their site
-let windows driver install
-installed latest driver w/ factory reset selected
-close every other app
-plug in headset
-directshow in deovr under dev settings
-videos stream at a near steady 90fps using H265 60fps until about 3300p when fps starts to dip enough to notice movement not being smooth
-the headset frame rate is set to 90hz in the mixed reality settings. I haven't tried changing it to 60hz yet, that might make videos play smoother
Im not even going to try H265 90fps, I don't think i can get a steady 90fps to make it all work. plus, the erratic behavior was extremely nauseating and im totally satisfied with 60fps for now
I also removed all 3rd party video players then installed the klite standard codec pack with the LAV video thing set to DXVA2 , but i'm unsure that it makes a difference with mixed reality when i changed settings with it. I also have the free HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer, not the $.99 one in the store. I cannot remember where i got that from, some other guide i followed.
it's a ton of work but it was worth it to see how good the videos are at 6k and higher.
I was super annoyed to find that my integrated intel 630 is able to play downloaded videos up to 8k without doing anything but setting a video player to use it. The 5700 XT asic chokes at high bitrate 6k, 7k was out of the question for me.
