I highly appreciate the focus SLR has put on haptics lately. In fact, it is the very reason why I recently grabbed a lifetime SLR + scripts bundle. A company with the vision to bring haptic porn to the masses deserves my support. That SLR has so much more planned for VR in general just makes it all the better. Your recent and upcoming endeavours of improving the interactive ecosystem, especially the ubiquity of scripts and pushing hardware development, are really making me excited what the future will hold for us SLR users. Couldn't be more happy with the direction this is going!
I am VERY outraged at the recent censorship issues, but my anger is towards the policymakers and NOT SLR. I know that you are working your asses off to be able to meet the compliance requirements and are just as disheartened about the state of affairs as I am. That you keep an honest and open communication about this with your customers, even when you are barely able to find a way to handle the additional workload of implementing the compliance on short notice and receiving negative (albeit justified) backlash from the community, is laudable and increases my faith in the company immensely. I know that you had some rub with being a tad too confronting with communications in the past, but what matters to me is how you handle situations like this one, and I am very positively surprised at the raw honesty displayed by SLR in the forum thread. If we look past the disheartening censorship issues (pretty much all banned content are kinks of mine, but censorship in general is a topic that attracts my ire...), then what's planned for 2022 looks absolutely delighting. I feel sad for the studios and directors that will need to limit their creative freedom if they want to continue to work with SLR, though. That being said, the focus on haptics is the absolute highlight of 2022 for me. I'm raising my glass to this on this New Year's Eve tonight!
I think the scripting community is currently lacking a device that falls between the sleekness of a commercial product like the Handy and a cutting (or rather bleeding) edge device like the OSR2+/SR6 or the robotsexmachine/rubjoy.
I'm yearning for a device that strikes the right balance between the comfort and mobility of the Handy and the advanced movement patterns and superb features (autoheating, autolubing) currently only available in a homebrewed OSR device. If such a device were to exist I would probably starve to death before I could gather the willpower to pause the pure mastubatory bliss, but oh well 😅
Personally I don't care about the price tag, but I guess in order to lure a lot of subscribers in, affordability is paramount. Maybe a multi-tiered approach could be used that would provide enthusiasts like me (and I think there are a lot of us here on SLR) the option to go all-in at whatever cost is necessary to get the best device possible, while offering a subsidized base model for the masses that hits the sweet spot between affordability and great stroking performance. If I were to choose I'd wish you'd ignore the affordability factor completely, but I understand that a healthy bottomline is needed to keep you guys going strong for years and years to come and is ultimately more important than satisfying the tech enthusiasts among us. If you can serve to both camps at the same time, then this would be incredible, but I understand if this is out of reach.
I guess he's probably not interested in working on a proprietory product on the side in addition to the OSR, but I honestly think Tempest MAx is one of the few who could design something utterly incredible, given the funds and infrastructure to do so. I am a huge fan of the team behind the Handy for their community-focused approach and all they've been doing for the scripting ecosystem, but I think they lack the vision to design a device that is heaps and bounds above what we currently have in the market. The result would certainly be a good product, but simply not astonishing enough for what I am sensing SLR is reaching for. Maybe the guy behind robotsexmachine could design a prototype that is then brought to market by a team experienced in industrial design and manufacturing? Either way, I'm delighted to see SLR planning to do some innovation in this space, and since it is SLR doing it I'm convinced they are striving for a device that feels magical. Heck yeah, I'm excited!!
