Upgrading from a Rift S: Which Headset should I buy?

im looking to upgrade from my current headset which is a Rift S to something with a significantly better display/resolution.

what I want:
- significantly better image quality than Rift S
- with cables, no wireless

my specs:
- i9 CPU
- 32gb ram
- RTX 2060 GPU

right now Im looking at either the HP Reverb G2 or the HTC Vive Pro 2.
I know the G2 is already supported by SLR, is the Vive 2 also supported?

Will my system be able to handle the best resolution/video quality?

what are yout thoughts? any other headsets I should look into?

eos666 I'm keen to know how you get on with this. I'm also looking to upgrade from the Rift S. I've ordered a Quest 2 as that was quickest/cheapest option for me, but other users suggested (if price was no barrier) the Pimax 8k +.

Would go for a Quest 2, very good resolution especially the SLR originals and price / quality together with ease of use is perfect. Would save some money now and buy Quest 3 in a couple of years, you can probably buy both instead of the Pimax.

hhigh88 quest 2 is wireless though and their cable solution is really bad, you take a big hit on image quality. also i dont want facebook filming my dick all the time.

I have a Reverb G2 and I like it. Very good picture quality and comfortable (also better than the Quest 2) 🙂

I think your system might have a hard time rendering though, especially if you also want to play some games.

I have a 2070 Super and it's imho rather the minimum. But maybe just try it out if it fits your needs. 😉

for VR Video? What other displays, resolutions + refresh rates do you have? And HDMI/DP?

LordCrash ordered a G2 yesterday, hopefully my 2060 will be enough for SLR at highest res - thats pretty much all I use VR for, havent found any VR games that keep me interested for longer than 5 minutes.

You will need the HEVC codec from the Microsoft store which costs $1/€1.
and LAV filters OR k-lite codec pack (standard)

received my G2 today and all I can say is: DO NOT BUY THIS POS!!!

i thought all those warning about the g2 not working were idiots who dont know enough about computers, but it really is that bad. the device will not even get recognized as a propper usb device, and if it does get detected WMR will give you error 7-14 and thats it.

tested on all my usb ports, A and C, added a extra pcie usb card, tested on a different PC - nothing worked.

believe me i know how to trougleshoot pc issues, this VR headset is simply a failed product.

eos666 I'm sorry to hear that and I had the very same issues at first. To be honest, it works with only one of my USB ports. The USB port isn't the only issue though, the HDMI cable also has issues which can cause the 7-14. Try to press it a bit further into your graphics card and try to bend it a bit upwards. I know this sounds strange but it works for me.
