  • Any MacOS options for video server from desktop besides Plex?

I have been using Plex for a while now, can watch VR videos from my Mac streamed to my Oculus Quest 2 using Skybox.

But I wondered, is there any other options out there for a MacOS video server? Plex is fine but not too user friendly and seems to be a lot more than what I need.

Thanks!

On a mac here too and I've tried a bunch. There's Serviio if you really don't like PLEX. But, in my experience PLEX has been the easiest, even though it has a ton of features you don't use. It's reliable and not buggy. These days if for DL's I'm just using Plex with DLNA enabled, streaming through the SLR app. I've tried a number of VR player apps, too. SLR/DEO is my fav now because it's so easy to reposition video on the fly. I used to use MobileVRStation, but haven't touched it since getting a subscription to SLR and using their app.

I use jellyfin, free, just uses a browser, takes a few minutes to configure, streams any size file to a quest2. It works fine on a mac. Only problem I ever have is some numbers in file names can cause undesired file name changes, so I keep file names short and number free except for the LR_180 or MKX200.
