Rakly3 With 'not smooth' I take it as meaning, choppy, stuttery, yes?

It's like low-framerate or frame-dropping.

Changing resolution / codec while streaming doesn't solve the issue.

No issues with games. (Beat Saber etc.)

      Frame-dropping feelings are pretty much the same on all the videos. More noticeable on 60fps recorded videos than 30fps, of course.

      No.

      I don't have a proper Link cable, so tested with Virtual Desktop. Virtual Desktop + DeoVR (Oculus PC version) can play videos without the issue (very smooth).

        cirvol Can you try slowing down the playback speed, see if at a certain point it gets better.

          Rakly3 Slowing down the playback speed makes the framerate lower. It makes the issue less noticeable but can't be a fundamental solution.

            cirvol hehe wasn't meant as solution, I just can't replicate the issue so I'm relying on what you tell me 🙂 It surely lowers framerate, but do you get the same kind of jitter?

              Honestly it's difficult to distinguish between the frame-dropping caused by the issue and the jitteriness caused by the slow-motion playback. At the playback speed of x0.95, I still feel the frame-dropping.

              Are there any devs who could replicate the issue? The frame-dropping feeling is quite easy to notice with my Quest 2 (and probably the guys' on reddit mentioned above).

              Do you think factory-resetting Quest 2 could be effective? (For the factory-reset I need to backup all the game data and the settings etc then restore them, which takes time, anyway I'm willing to do it, if it's worth it)

              I confirmed that

              • Factory resetting doesn't solve the issue.
              • By manually setting Refresh Rate to 90Hz via SideQuest, the jitteriness has been reduced noticeably. Local playback with Pigasus is still smoother though.

              I had thought that 90Hz was enabled by default on Quest 2 v23 and setting refresh rate to 90Hz by SIdeQuest did nothing, but according to this comment

              So now, what should I do to remove the jitteriness completely? Will the "Full scale DeoVR upgrade" announced about a month ago solve the issue?

              Rakly3 On Quest 2, the 72 fps slider sometimes works backwards. Turning it "off" enables 72fps, and "on" is 60 fps. This happens intermittently, maybe even every other time I start watching a video.

              It's simply not possible to show 90 fps in 60 or 72 Hz mode in a smooth way. That's just how things work. You will have to drop frames and that's what's causes the stutter.

              I wonder if SLR app / DeoVR are supporting the 90 hz mode at all? Looks like they limit the user to 60 or hz fps wor some reason. Correct way would be to choose the frequence automatically based on the video fps.

                notreallyhere We do offer 90FPS with the more recent videos. It's mainly meant for PC headsets that can handle it. For the Quest 2 it doesn't work very well yet.
