Ok, let me give my detailed analysis after almost 3 weeks of use and testing. I am sorry if someone do not like this opinion, but I want to be honest. Sorry for the long post. I try to sort this easy to read and I really want to improve how this BYOJ 2.0 should make SLR back to forefront of Netflix of porn.
Remember my background, more than 250 BYOJ videos created using "old and deprecated" version. I really liked that. It was simple and easy to use. Best feature SLR had combined with their passthrough AI. Old BYOJ had some flaws. Major flaw was transition time between scenes. Even using single video it could take about 1 to 3 seconds to change scene.
Positive things
- Really fast transition. This new BYOJ is really fast. Congratulations you finally nailed it. Inside the same video the jump is super fast and almost unnoticeable. I think it is as fast as using HereSphere and its Autoseek feature playing tracks considering jump is also more accurate than using HereSphere.
Between two different videos the jump feature is not that fast. Might be as slow as previously. I dont know is it possible to make it any faster? It is so-so would I call this new BYOJ 2.0 better than old one only because of this super fast transition. I really might call this better. It is really huge improvement but as you can see, there is only 1 positive thing instead of huge list of misses and bad things. So you really developed this 7 months and this is what we get?
Bad things
1. Way too complex.
I really don't know how would you make it any more complex than this? Why not just improve the old one? As I said names are little bit silly (timing, target time) and confusing. You have to think about jumps instead of chapter start and end times. I would really like to know the logic behind this?
2. Thinking about jumps instead of chapters.
The old one worked like charm. Let's say you have 2 different videos. You just made chapter inserting video id and start and stop times. Same with another video and join them with "jump to" -command. This could be done in less than a minute if you knew what to do. How this new BYOJ works? First you have to trim both videos, then add "jump to" event and figure out proper timing. If you have many "jump to" -events it is more than likely you get confused what was timing and target time. Why?
Our brains are wired to think about chapters and start and stop times. Now we should think about first video end time and second video start time. Oh my god my brains hurt. Such idiocy. Really painful when you have to correct something. Using old version you could just read the wrong chapter name and fix timing. Now I really have to count those jumps and pray I am fixing the right "chapter" cos timing. This all is done using graphical interface instead of "old and deprecated" plain text in simple table. Using this new BYOJ you also have to remember to change video feed creating those jumps if you want to change source.
3. Can't be created using headset.
I don't know is this scene editor meant to be used only with computer cos nobody would use this with Quest 3. Try to put some digits into timing and you know what I mean. why the hell you get full keyboard if you are meant to insert digits? If you hit 1122 if should mean 11 mins and 22 second in default. So easy to fix and no brainer.
If you have used HereSphere you know how easy it is to create tracks using headset and only single controller. Why not use this kind of method in your scene editor? I really thought this BYOJ 2.0 would be something like this. 7 months of development and Heresphere is far better. Really?
4. Works with incomplete Hyper.
I really do not know why SLR is supporting Hyper and DeoVR at the same time? I think Hyper is going to become primary player some day. I am baffled why it lacks so many features DeoVR has? Where is horizontal and vertical offset slider? This is really important using 8K JAV videos and deal breaker for using Hyper. Why Hyper do not remember correct passthrough settings etc? Why Deo VR feels still easier and faster to use? I think you have developed this as long as BYOJ?
5. Lack of tracks leads to lack of settings
This is really crucial. There should be different settings for every "track" between jumps. Positions change so we have to adjust roll, hight, pitch, zoom etc for every "track" between jumps. Those adjustments have to be saved. Now there is only one setting for one video. It is not enough if I have for example 8 jumps in one video all with different angles etc. Then all those 8 jumps have to have different "projection settings". This should be no-brainer and worst feature in this new BYOJ 2.0. Just to remind the "old and deprecated" version had these setting correct. HereSphere has key frame projection settings. Why dont you learn from the best?
6. Timeline is linear not structural so no overlapping allowed
You can not really go backwards doing overlapping scenes. This took me almost 2 weeks to figure out and is still little bit confusing. This is hard to explain, but I try. Old BYOJ used scenes and was structural. You could start from timestamp minutes 20-21, then 8-10 and last one 9-11 and repeat in loop. No problems. But this new BYOJ 2.0 is linear. You could start by 0 second of video and made jump to 20-21, then 8-10. But it is not possible to jump and repeat timestamp 9-11 anymore. BYOJ 2.0 will loop 9-10 indefinitely because this is linear instead of structural and there is already "jump to" -command in 10 minutes. So jumps can interfere with each other if you do not pay close attention.
Why would I want to create overlapping scenes? Maybe there is some really good missionary position I want to prolong. It is only 2 minutes but I want to make it double. 2+2 =4 and one overlapping scene. Using old BYOJ this was possible. This new 2.0 version hinders it.
7. Bad layout.
Ok, I know this is under development but I have to mention. Why there is only small grid for my BYOJ videos? Like 2x3=6 grid. Old version had 3 x 4 = 12 videos. Why can't we arrange these some better way than newest? Why it is so complicated to watch these? I have to click video ->publish tab ->scroll down and click some link. I bet these chance but old version was better from day 1.
Conclusion
I do not know did anybody has patience to read this till the end. Took me more than hour to write. All in all there is only one improved feature in this new BYOJ 2.0 and it is super fast transition time.
Because of weird design (focus on jumps) and lack of "scenes" there is plenty of bugs and features trying to ruin immersion. Worst is probably lack of key frame projection settings, lack of overlapping scenes and lack of horizontal offset. There is potential but if this took 7 months to develop I would not hold my breath.
I dont know can all of these features be fixed or are they permanent features of chosen technology? Even HereSphere is helpless with overlapping scenes so that might be problematic. Others are just bad and lazy design because HereSphere can do it. What are your thoughts?
