Steam Frame

Is anyone excited about the Steam Frame? It seems like a release might be coming soon. Looks like a solid headset for traditional VR enthusiasts. I was a bit bummed initially about monochromatic passthrough, but recently I’ve found myself really enjoying traditional VR for many reasons. Plus, if I have an itch for passthrough, I can always throw on the quest 3 (which I believe will continue to excel at and improve in mixed reality). Curious what everyone thinks of Steam Frame? Is anyone else thinking of picking one up early?

Agreed about monochrome passthrough, what a waste. But apparently you'll be able to add colour with modding or something?

I think the lenses on Frame are slightly better than my Pico 4 (first edition) but it's not such a big jump that'll make me upgrade..

So for me, it's nice having more people introduced to VR but the headset isn't something i'll buy unless a ton of games come out.. or something

I would have been excited about the steam frame 3 years ago... There is nothing special about this headset and it will probably cost more than a Quest 3. If it was any other company than valve that released this headset there would be no hype at all...

whoisjgalt no plans for windows devices. It hurts

jommy Unless the Steam Frame becomes some kind of incredible success, I wouldn't bet on any high quality third party add-ons apart from the standard fare (head-straps, face plates, etc). The Index was also marketed as having a bunch of extension ports, and no one ever made anything meaningful for them.

herauer what? Just because you won't use its features doesn't mean it isn't special. Its a full Linux SteamOS PC, which can locally play regular games.

phiber yes regarding succes, it needs to sell. The Index' "extension port" was just a USB3 port. The Frame has a pcie slot and midi interface allowing 1-2 cameras, not the same thing at all.

I'm not excited about it either, but the same goes for 50x other headsets that release every year. We don't even have 1 good piece of media per year releasing but we get 100x slop headsets. This one at least does something actually unique

doublevr I’m not sure what this means. Will the Steam Frame be a bad option for DeoVR and SLR? It seems like a logical choice for gaming, but I’d also like to use it for media consumption and other uses beyond just games.
